The chemistry between co-stars is one of the most important aspects of filmmaking, and actors often spend a lot of time together in order to cultivate a true bond and deliver convincing performances for their audience. But what happens when one of the actors isn’t human? According toThe Batmanstar Zoë Kravitz, the process is more or less the same.
When preparing forher role as Selina Kyle/CatwomaninThe Batman, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, the 33-year-old actress had to study every aspect of her character. That included Catwoman’s mannerisms and fighting style to the relationship she has with her beloved pets, which required getting to know Kravitz’s non-human costars.

During a recent appearance onThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kravitz revealed that besides training for the film’s action sequences and rehearsal, herschedule forThe Batmanfeatured “cat time,” which was supposed to help the actress bond with her feline co-stars. “They were the hardest thing to control during the shooting,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “We were doing crazy stunts and all that was fine, but then getting a cat to stay in one place? Impossible.”
Kravitz went on to explain what “cat time” consisted of and revealed that, while intentions were good, the activity didn’t work because, as fans all know, cats are unpredictable. “It’s funny, they would say, ‘Training at 1:30, and then rehearsal at this time, and then cat time,'” she recalled. “I was like, ‘What’s cat time?’ And it was just putting me in a room with a bunch of cats, with the cats that were going to be my cats. But the cats didn’t care. I was just sitting here, and the cats would just walk away. It did nothing.”
In the interview, Kravitz also said that she drank milk from a bowl and watched cat videos to analyze their fighting style. As forher approach to Catwoman, the actress previously shared that she kept in mind Eartha Kitt’s 1960 biracial version of Catwoman while also trying to give a unique twist to the part.
