Tears of the Kingdomallows players to grow and harvest their own crops in Hateno Village. This can potentially cut back on farming certain vegetables, fruits, etc. in the wild or buying them from stores. Fortunately, gardening in-game is as easy as speaking to the right person and selecting what to grow.
There’s a NPC named Uma at the fields to the left of the Hateno School inTears of the Kingdom. Speaking to her after the completion of two particular side quests will unlock the side quest “Uma’s Garden.” Once “Uma’s Garden” is marked complete, players can grow crops whenever they desire.

How to Unlock “Uma’s Garden” Side Quest
Although Uma can be spoken on players' first visit to Hateno Village, she’ll mention that the fields aren’t ready to start growing crops yet. To speed up this process, players are going to need to assistSyminat theHateno School (3365, -1985, 0129)and complete the side quests:
Talking to Symin whileclass is in session (wait until noon)will unlock the side quest “Teach Me A Lesson I.” To complete this, players are going to need totake a picture of the tapestry about The Calamity in Impa’s house:
If players do not have the Camera, then they’re going to need to speak to Josha at Lookout Landing and complete the side quest “Camera Work in the Depths.”
Talking to Symin after complete “Teach Me A Lesson I” will unlock “Teach Me A Lesson II.“Remember:Link needs to confront him during class. He won’t receive the second side quest in Symin’s off-hours. For this lesson, players are going to need to cook upMonster Curry. This can be made by cooking the following ingredients together:
Cook up theMonster Curryand then give it to Symin during his cooking lesson. This will finally allow Link to use the Hateno School gardens.
How to Complete “Uma’s Garden” Side Quest
“Uma’s Garden” is a tutorial mode for the garden inTears of the Kingdom. Players can find Uma at the fields down the hill next to the school(3342, -2030, 0117)and get the side quest. From here, Uma will list off the types of crops she can grow:
- Choosing to planta Hearty Radish or an Endura Carrotwill yield fewer results.
Players will needat least one vegetable/fruit/grain in their inventoryto grow them in the fields. Whatever’s chosen will be used up, so players will want to make sure to havemore than onein the inventory if they’re saving up on certain food.
Uma will warn Link that simply resting at an inn isn’t enough for the crops to grow. In fact,crops taketwo in-game days to grow, which is equivalent toone hour in real time. Players will also need toleave Hateno Village at least once. So, they can spend an hour doing other quests, killing monsters, whatever they want. After two in-game days pass, feel free to warp back to Hateno Village and check in on the garden.
Once the crops grow in, the “Uma’s Garden” side quest will be marked complete. Link can then start collecting whatever he planted for the side quest. If players want tochange the crop, then they should speak to Uma and have her start over. This willget rid of the previous crop, so think carefully before making the decision.
If players decide to grow Tabantha Wheat or Hylian Rice, then they’ll need tocut the crops before they can collect anything.

What Should You Grow?
Players are free to choose whatever they want to grow. If they’re worried about fewer results, then they shouldavoid plantingHearty RadishorEndura Carrot. However,given the rarity of Hearty Radishes, the lower growth rate may be worth the sacrifice.
