Summary
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign is now available in early access, and there has been no shortage of criticism about it. Fans have objected to some ofModern Warfare 3’s big story decisions, while the campaign’s startling brevity has also been called out. Open Combat Missions are hugely disappointing in the eyes of many fans, feeling like the newer Spec Ops modes and DMZ instead of the linear, set piece-filled levels of old. Alongside all of this,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s lack of a Platinum Trophy has fans disappointed.
To be clear, not everyone cares about Trophy hunting in video games. Considering that manyCall of Dutyplayers pick up each game purely for the multiplayer and ignore the singleplayer mode, the lack of a Platinum Trophy is less of an issue than it would be in other franchises. However, there are absolutely still some players that are disappointed in the decision, using it to reiterate the argument thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is just a renamed and pricey DLC. Sadly, for those that are less motivated to collectMW3’s Trophies because of the missing Platinum, there is a good chance that this issue persists in futureCall of Dutyreleases.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 May Not Be The Last CoD Game Without a Platinum
Call of Duty’s “Shared App Approach” Means New Games Are DLC
It is important to note that this issue is limited to thePlayStation 5 version ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3specifically, as the PS4 version of the game offers a Platinum Trophy just like one would expect from a AAA release. This has led some to theorize that the issue is not carryover fromModern Warfare 3supposedly being planned as a DLC, but instead a problem with theCall of Dutyfranchise’s new approach.
While Call of Duty games have occasionally come with challenging Platinums, like Black Ops 4 due to the Blackout Trophies andWorld at War due to its brutal Veteran mode, most are considered easy to unlock. This could be the reason fans are disappointed, as they are essentially losing out on an easy Platinum with the PS5 version.

TheCall of Dutyseries' file size issuehas been discussed heavily, and it comes about due to the use of one large application to house numerousCall of Dutygames - an approach that has possibly led to this Platinum controversy as well.Call of Dutyis now recognized as one big app on the PlayStation 5, and each app is only allowed one full Trophy list with a Platinum Trophy. That game isCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, withModern Warfare 3’s only option being to offer an add-on Trophy list because of that. As long asCall of Dutyis treated as one big app where players can access every game through one application, DLC Trophy lists may unfortunately be the norm for PS5 users.
Call of Duty 2025 Sounds Very Similar to Modern Warfare 3
Though all leaks should be taken with a grain of salt - especially those about a game that is two years away -Call of Duty2025 is said to be comprised ofBlack Ops 2map remakes, just likeMW3is made up of maps from an older game. As an expansion-like game that follows up2024’s newBlack Opsexperience, this game would likely fall into a similar Trophy trap. Even ifCall of Duty2024 starts a new shared application for the series,Call of Duty2025 could end up without a Platinum just likeModern Warfare 3, as it is rumored to be another DLC-like offering instead of a fully original project. Hopefully, Activision keeps all the backlash in mind withCall of Duty2025, avoiding the campaign criticisms while also making sure that there is a Platinum Trophy available to PS5 users.
