Stardew Valleyis one of those games comprising a unique seasonal mechanism that applies to harvesting and foraging. When Winter is in sight, players must gather some winter-specific wild resources, like Winter Roots, while the homestead is inactive.
ForagingWinter Rootsisn’t a tricky task; it is quite easily obtainable and offers rewarding benefits. Whether players gift it todevelop their friendships, sell it for a small extra addition in bank funds, or use it for recipes, Winter Roots is a common yet valuable foraged item inStardew Valley.

Looking for Winter Roots
As their name implies, Winter Roots areeasy-to-find foraging itemsmostly available in Winter. Players should look for Winter Roots in:
Artifact Spots
The highest chance of finding Winter Roots is by foraging in Winter. But these items are foraged a bit differently than regular items. That’s because these can only be found underground in certain specific places known as Artifact Spots.
Any area on the ground that has worms squiggling around is anArtifact Spot. Upon discovering these areas, players should equip their Hoe tooland start digging – but whichever item is underground remains unknown until it’s wholly foraged.

The Mines
The mines have the second-highest chance of getting Winter Roots, but there are better methods than this one, as itrequires a lot of grinding.
Players will have to slayBlue Slimesin the mines on floors 40-80 or the Secret Woods to get Winter Root inStardew Valley.
Tillable Soil
Digging up any standard tillable dirt/soil with a hoe outside the farm is another method to obtain Winter Roots, but the drop rate is low.
Winter Seeds
Players can plant Winter or wild seeds and wait around seven days to harvest them – and obtain Winter Roots. This can only be done if a player already has some Winter Roots and other forgeables – and is looking for more.
To getWinter Seeds, combine some Winter Roots with a crystal fruit, a crocus, and a snow yam. These are the only seeds growable in Winter. After that, harvest, wait for seven days, and enjoy Winter Roots, but the crop outcomes remain variable.
Garbage Cans
Garbage cans drop different items in different seasons. They have predetermined drops, but the item drop can beaffected by daily luck. In that case, in winter, winter-specific items can be found in garbage cans, including Winter Roots.
Traveling Cart
Players can buy Winter Roostfrom the traveling cartwhenever this item shows up; the cost varies from 210g to 1000g. Buying from a traveling cart isn’t recommended because it’s not profitable (since Winter Roots sell for 170g), but it’s a surefire way to get them if needed.
