As the weekend closes in and the San Diego Comic-Con edges closer, Marvel fans are expecting news on many upcoming projects, includingBlade. However, one thing that should not be on anyone’s radar is Wesley Snipes getting involved with the MCU’s new vampire hunter.
Snipes played the Daywalker from 1998 to 2004, with a trilogy ofBlademovies helping launch Marvel’s day in the world of cinema, even beforeSpider-Manand theX-Mencame along. Long due for a return in today’s superhero film genre,Bladewas announced to be joining the MCU a few years ago with Academy Award-winning actorMahershala Ali being cast in the role, who ended up making his official debut in last year’sEternals' post-credits scene, even if it was a voice-only cameo.

Ali’s casting has been praised by many, and Snipes can be counted among those who believe the actor will make for a great Eric Cross Brooks inMarvel Studios' reboot. “Those who approach the craft that way usually do very, very well, and I think he’s done pretty good so far, so I have great confidence,” said Snipes. “And his name is Mahershala Ali, c’mon!” In the same Forbes interview where he discussed his recent comic book project,THE EXILED(which launched via Kickstarter), Snipes also mentioned he still hasn’t been contacted by anyone at Marvel Studios for a special appearance in Blade’s return.
Snipes mentioned he’s caught on to the rumors, saying, “I hear it from other people who hear it from other people,” but as far as reality goes no one has directly approached him tojump on board for the MCU’sBlade. Nonetheless, the actor has said he is more than open to returning in a cameo capacity to the franchise that gave him so much. So, this combined with Marvel Studios' usual game of misdirection means fans should not rule out any potential appearances.
Snipes was accused ofpoor behavior on the set ofBlade: Trinitya couple of years ago by comedian and actor Patton Oswalt, though no further proof of the supposed aggressive incidents has surfaced since then. The former Blade also served a two and half years prison sentence for tax-related crimes from 2010 to 2013, so it’d be up for grabs whether that would affect Marvel Studios' decision to bring him back for a cameo.
Despite overwhelming excitement for Ali’s casting, some fans are worried Marvel Studios' decision to keepBladePG-13 could hurt the film. After all, Snipes' former co-star, Ryan Reynolds, is currently the onlysuperhero with a confirmed R-rated film inDeadpool 3.
