Getting aPlayStation 5console for a reasonable price is just as difficult in 2022 as it was in 2020, with supply shortages, the ongoing pandemic, and a multitude of other real-world issues making PS5 supply scarce. It’s still next to impossible for one to walk into a store and walk out with aPS5console in tow, and so the only way that most are able to buy the system is by taking advantage of online restocks.

Walmart is the latest retailer to restock the PlayStation 5 console. The restock will take place on Tuesday, April 19 at 9am PT, but there’s a catch. Only those who are signed up for the Walmart+ subscription service can take advantage of the restock opportunity. A Walmart+ subscription costs $12.95 per month or $98 per year, but it would still likely mean paying far less than if one were tobuy a PS5 from a scalper.

It should be noted this new Walmart PS5 restock will only feature the standard $499.99 PS5 console with a disc drive. There’s also a $399.99 PS5 Digital Edition console that exists, but anyone interested in it will have to wait for a different restock. The two consoles are identical in terms of performance and power, with the only difference being that the $499.99 PlayStation 5 has a disc drive and can therefore play physical PS5 and PS4 games, whereas thePS5 Digital Edition consoleis, as its name implies, restricted to digital content only.

There are various other benefits to signing up for Walmart+ besides just getting a PS5 console, and in theory, the paywall should make it so scalpers aren’t as much of a factor. However, there have been issues withWalmart+ PS5 restocksin the past, and it seems many customers are still finding it difficult to get their hands on a console, Walmart+ subscription or no. So anyone that wants to try their hand at buying a PS5 through this latest Walmart restock should keep that in mind.

ThePS5 supply issuesare expected to continue throughout the year, so anyone that still has yet to get a console should just keep trying whenever these online restocks happen and keep their fingers crossed. Eventually, the PS5 supply shortage issues should be resolved and it should become easier to get a console, but there doesn’t really seem to be an end in sight at the time of this writing.
