A Lead Artist forValheimhas revealed that a sequel to the beloved survival title is a possibility, but notes that their suggestion was shot down. The massively popularValheimwas released into early access nearly two years ago, where it has remained since with consistent but limited updates, continuing to tease the eventual implementation of the Mistlands.
At long last,a new biome is coming toValheim, approximately a year after it was initially scheduled to arrive. The procedurally generated survival game was initially developed by only five people, a team that did not expect the mass interest it accrued which resulted in 2 million copies sold in less than two weeks. Even more impressively,Valheimwas and still is only available on PC, but a version for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S is scheduled for early 2023. Until then, the Mistlands update is available inValheim’s Public Test Server, with an official release date expected to be right around the corner. The long-awaited update is substantial, offering not only a new biome to explore but bringing a variety of creatures, crafting options, and dungeons.

In a preview conducted by GamesRadar, it seems thatValheimdeveloper Iron Gate is not singularly focused on the adored survival experience, with lead artist Robin Eyre confirming that gamers could see a sequel in the future. Eyre added that his proposal had been rejected, whichwould have seen the Greydwarfs become protagonistsin a pixilated side-scroller. Items acquired in this spinoff could carry over toValheimor “if you go into [Valheim’s] credits, you may play the side-scroller Greydwarf game.”
GamesRadar noted that although Eyre’s concept will not be developed upon, Iron Gate is open to ideas.GivenValheim’s success and small development team, finances are of no present concern, with senior developer Jonthan Smars going so far as to claim there exists no pressure to do “lots of planning and budgeting to plan out the coming 10 years ofValheim,” suggesting that players can expect a lot more to come.
Additionally, Smars reaffirms thatValheimwill not see any paid DLC and the team expects to “continue working on the remaining in-game biomes untilValheimversion 1.0.” A recent update ensured that cross-play functionality will be up and running when the game comes to Xbox consoles, and it hasalready arrived on the Xbox Game Pass subscription servicefor PC.
Valheimis available now for PC, and releases in early 2023 for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
