Valheimhas been a smash hit since it launched in February of this year, as the open-world Norse-inspired game has been praised for its survival gameplay and rich biomes. The game has done well pulling on its Norse roots and launched into early access with a diverse set of creatures both hostile and friendly. While some of the creatures inValheimare pulled from Norse mythology, others have roots in gods and monsters but are of an original design.
With the Norse pantheon’s heavy-handed gods, it may be difficult to directly incorporate some of the iconic figures into the game, but others could feature well. Some fans of the game may be familiar with popular names like Thor and Loki, but there are creatures thatValheimcould bring into the fold as well. With thecreature mods, the game has already received it is likely fans will introduce their own in some way, but it would be awesome for a few to make official appearances.

Hati and Skoll
Hati and Skoll are both wolves that seek to devour the moon and the sun, respectively. With wolves and fenring already in the game as enemies, the addition of these two could be incorporated well. Because Hati and Skoll seek to consume two of the most important celestial bodies to Earth their introduction as mini-bosses seems the best route. The game’s altar mechanics could force players to summon one of the wolves during the day and the other at night, with the requirement of defeating both wolves in the same day. This would place time a restraint that remains true to their lore but also provide them with a unique mechanic as well. As a duo, the wolves would undoubtedly be difficult to defeat and require players to use some ofValheim’sbest weaponsto beat.
Fenrir
The giant wolf Fenrir could be introduced as a major boss that is locked until Hati and Skoll have been summoned and defeated. The legendary wolf plays a major role in Norse mythology and is the demise of the Allfather, Odin, during Ragnarok which makes him a likely future enemy in the realm of Valheim. As a descendant of theNorse gods, particularly as a son of Loki, Fenrir is a ferocious beast and the namesake of the fenring inValheim. The character of Fenrir would likely take its traditional form of a giant wolf in the game as well. Similar to how other bosses spawn mobs Fenrir could spawn fenring and wolves as players fight to defeat him.
Norse Dragons
The lindworm could be a creature introduced to most ofValheim’sbiomes. The drake-like creatures are believed to inhabit diverse environments from hilly mountainous areas to forested rivers and plains.Valheimalready has some dragon-style creatures with the winged drakes that inhabit the game’s mountains and the ice dragon Moder, but the wingless lindworm could also lead to a couple of other bosses inValheim’sfuture.
Both Jormungandr and Nidhogg are giant serpentine-like monsters that are also described as dragons. The draconic Nidhogg gnaws and consumes the roots of Yggdrasil the World Tree. The World Tree is visible inValheimand the player’s goal of proving themselves to Odin makes Nidhogg a logical target. If Odin wishes for the player to prove themselves as the lore states, then defeating the creature that continuously eats away at the tree is a great test of strength.
Jormungandr if introduced would likely constitute an end-game style boss. Responsible for Thor’s death and a major factor in Ragnarok Jormungandr is described as the world eater. In the mythos, the snake is defeated by Thor, but the god loses his life in the process. The serpent’s introduction to the game could be difficult but it would also make for an epic boss fight. While both Jormungandr and Nidhogg may be harder to introduce asbosses in Valheimthe lindworm could fit snugly in with other assets that are already in use.
