With theXbox Series Xcurrently being a lot more communicative about the release of the console and what players can expect from it,PlayStationhas been receiving a lot of criticism as of late about its severely hands-off attitude toward marketing. Not only has the console manufacturer remained cryptically silent surrounding its plans for the PlayStation 5’s release, but its also not shown anything about the console or the games coming to it over recent months.
Yet, it seems that’s all about to change, with industry insider Jeff Grub revealing on Venture Beat that Sony is looking to host its first major PlayStation 5 reveal as soon as next week. According to the leaker, the company will be looking to hold a broadcast next Wednesday (June 3) with the report only seeming more reputable when considering that fellow industry insidersJason Schrier and Takashi Mochizuki have corroborated the claim over at Bloomberg.

According to Grubb, this is currently only a rough plan, with the journalist claiming that Sony is trying to be flexible with its promotional decisions for the PlayStation 5 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Alongside discussing the plans for the conference’s date, Grubb goes on to highlight what will be at this alleged event, stating “expect it to focus on what is possible in next-gen games with the PlayStation 5. The company seems aware ofthe backlash that Microsoft faced for its first Xbox 20/20 event.Fans were unhappy with the lack of gameplay at that presentation. In response, Sony wants to rely on PS5 games that are actually running on real hardware.”
Luckily, it seems fans will finally get their first taste of exactly what thePlayStation 5can do, which will no doubt be a major deal for fans still waiting on seeing true, next-gen gameplay being shown off in all its glory. Grubb does have more to say about what players should be expecting, letting fans know that they shouldn’t anticipate knowing everything about the PlayStation 5 straight away. “Don’t expect Sony to give away every detail about its next-gen system. The company could withhold price and release timing for another date,” Grubb claims.
Instead, he reveals that Sony intends to make followup events to talk more about the console, stating “The company is planning follow-up events. This includes a State of Play that will focus on both next- and current-gen games. ThatState of Playhas a tentative schedule of early August. Again, this could shift drastically depending on a number of factors.” However it does it, it’s clear Sony is finally ready to show fans why the PlayStation 5 is the future of gaming.
