After being a co-star inDeadpool 1and2, TJ Miller will not be returning forDeadpool 3. Initially, it appeared that the reason why was because of Miller’s falling out with the film’s star Ryan Reynolds after comments he made about their relationship while filming the movies. However, he has since backtracked on those comments.

Miller said that an on-set incident during the filming ofDeadpool 2was what led to the falling out between the two actors, among the others things that happened between them. Miller later clarified that, after getting a call from Reynolds himself, the two of them are on good terms.

On theAdam Carolla Show, Miller detailed the on-set incident that triggered the falling out between the two. “We had a really weird moment onDeadpoolwhere he said, ‘Let’s do one more take.’ And then as the character, he was horrifically mean to me as if I’m Weasel. So he was like, ‘You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition so that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.'” After Miller made these statements, he clarified his comments onSiriusXM, saying that, after a talk with Reynolds, they cleared the air. “It was very cool for him to say, ‘Hey, you know, I just heard on the show that you were upset about this.’ And I kind of said, ‘You know, I’m not,’ and then we sort of just hashed it out really quickly.”

Whatever issues Miller may or may not have with Reynolds, what also led to him being phased out of the franchise was when Miller was hit with sexual abuse allegations in 2017. Furthermore,Silicon Valleyactress Alice Wetterlund claimed that he was a “bully and petulant brat” while they were filming the show. Miller has denied the allegations, but his career has taken a bit of a downturn since these allegations came about.

From a movie perspective, they are going to miss Miller’s chemistry with Reynolds. While both knew how to pull off such deadpan, sarcastic characters, it never felt like Deadpool and Weasel were the same people at any point. Reynolds and Miller knew how to act off one another, so it didn’t feel like both were trying to one-up the other. Other comedies have had that issue, but not theDeadpoolfranchise. Not having that around again might be tough, especially sinceDeadpool’s appeal as a franchisestems from its comedic material, but hopefully, they can adequately replace the void Miller left behind.

Consideringthey have Hugh Jackman aboard as Wolverine, they may bank on that so that the two characters can bounce off each other to make the dynamic work. Weasel worked well in the previous movies, but it’s not like the franchise will fall apart with him out of the picture. Now that Deadpool finally has the Wolverine crossover he’s always wanted, and that Deadpool can interact with the MCU, fans may forget Weasel was ever there to begin with.
