The release ofApex Legendshas been both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing for Respawn, who have a hugely successful and profitable project, but it’s a curse forTitanfallfans who might not see a single-player sequel for a very long time. That hasn’t stoppedTitanfallfans from asking for moreTitanfallinfluence onApex Legends, since they’re set in the same universe. This time, Respawn had a response. The battle royale’s writers hinted that there may be moreTitanfallreferences than players realize.

YouTuber Staycation recently tweeted aboutApex LegendsSeason 7, saying that they thinkTitanfall 2protagonist Jack Cooper might join the game soon. Following that, Respawn Principal Writer Manny Hagopian decided to make a response. In an incredible tease, Hagopian says, “It’s crazy that you think you haven’t already got him… plotter twist!” In other words, Hagopian is teasing that Jack Cooper may already be one ofApex Legends' characters, or somewhere else in the game, andTitanfallfans haven’t realized it yet.

To make clear, Hagopian heavily implies that he’s just messing around in other Twitter responses since. It’s very possible that no,Jack Cooperis not actually inApex Legendsand Hagopian is just having fun with the rumormongers and speculators. It could also be an inside joke that isn’t immediately understandable by Respawn fans. One person who replied asked what Cooper’s name inApex Legendswould be, “Cooper? Typhon?” and Manny replies, “Manny.” So perhaps Hagopian sees Jack Cooper as a self-insert and his own involvement inApex Legends.

Hagopian’s jokes aren’t likely to slow down speculators now that they’ve been unleashed, however. They’ll be wondering if Cooper’s secretly one ofApex Legends' playable characters, or whether he’s hidden somewhere in one of the game’s maps. It’s possible he’s been referenced in thebattle royale’s story. All manner of oddities are possible. It’s not impossible for Cooper to be in the game somewhere.

The important truth to take away, however, is that whatever Cooper’s role inApex Legendsit’s still not going to be particularly meaningful to Titanfall fans. DespiteApex Legends' ties to theTitanfallfranchise, it’s clearly its own thing in virtually every regard.

At the very least,Titanfallfans can walk away knowing that theTitanfallgames are still on the minds of Respawn Entertainment devs. They haven’t forgotten Titfanll. Whether that matters, especially with anowner like Electronic Arts, is something else entirely. That said, the best way to persuade Respawn to do moreTitanfallis to keep encouraging the studio to do so.

Apex Legendsis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
