Video sharing platformTikTokgrew from obscurity to being one of the most prominent social media and content platforms. With over 1 billion users across 150 countries, it’s quickly closed the gap with the more established YouTube, andTikTok’s meteoric rise mirrors that of its biggest creators.
The platform’s most-followed creator is18-year-old Charli D’Amelio, with over 140 million followers. In addition to her main account, D’Amelio also maintained a semi-secret “spam” account, which drew a large following before its sudden disappearance. D’Amelio finally addressed this in a Q&A with fans, though her explanation leaves more questions than answers.

D’Amelio held the Q&A on TikTok May 12. During the video, she responded to a fan asking if she was ever going to create another spam account. D’Amelio didn’t answer directly, instead revealing that she wasn’t sure what happened to her original spam account. According to her, TikTok simply logged her out of that account one day, and she could never get back in. The 18-year-old TikTok star said she misses her spam account but thinks it is gone for good.
D’Amelio’s explanation seems to indicate thatTikTok deleted her account itself. That usually happens when an account violates the platform’s terms of service, though it’s unclear what rules the content creator may have broken. It’s possible that the unassuming name might have led TikTok’s content moderators to mistakenly believe that her “spam” account really was a spam account or that it was stealing from D’Amelio’s main account. However, this is little more than speculation.
Charli D’Amelio,who won MrBeast’s Creator Games 2 in 2020, is mainly known for her dance videos under the username @charlidamelio. However, she made some effort to separate her spam account from her main one, using a randomized name and not promoting the spam account at all. The account was also quite generic, showing her dancing and singing with her friends and family. However, many fans still flocked to her second account, which quickly surpassed 1 million followers within a day of its discovery by her community. Unfortunately, that popularity wasn’t enough to prevent the account’s disappearance.
Regardless, Charli D’Amelio’s main account does not seem to be going anywhere and sits at over 141 million followers as of this writing. Sadly, her reality show does not seem to be quite as successful. The show debutedon Hulu and Disney+in 2021, and only has a 2.4/10 on IMDB and an unimpressive audience score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, that misstep hasn’t detracted from her massive internet stardom.
