Less than a month away from the release of Netflix’sThe Witcherseries, fans are getting a pretty good idea of the involvement that the show’s three main characters (Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg, and Ciri) will have. However, fans remain less clear on how much the show will involve characters like Triss Merigold, or Vesemir–characters important enough toThe Witcheruniverse that it feels wrong to call them “minor,” but still less prominent than the core trio.
Much of the on-set photos and trailer footage so far has focused almostexclusively on Geralt, Yen, and Ciri, as has information released about the show. It’s clear that the show is following source material from the earlyWitchernovels, but only now are fans getting an idea of what that means for fan-favorite side-characters.

InThe Last Wish(the first chronologically in the book series), neither Triss nor Vesemir have a very big role. SinceThe Last Wishis undoubtedly a big source for the Netflix series, one might expect the same to hold true in the new show–but apparently Netflix is changing things up. “So not to spoil much, but one of those characters is just supplementary and the other is quite prominent, but don’t want to say which one,” saidTheWitcher’s Executive Producer, Tomek Baginski, while speaking to Comicbook.com. While that’s a short answer, it’splenty to speculate overand proves that the show will, in fact, deviate from the books in some ways.
Which of the two will have the “quite prominent” role inThe Witcherremains to be seen, and they’re both strong contenders. Triss’s roleexpands substantially as the story progresses, and she’s played a big part in Geralt’s life, while Vesemir is his near-lifelong mentor and ally. Netflix’s official description of the show doesn’t offer any other clues, either, reading, “Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books,The Witcheris an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
Regardless of which character gets the big role and which is supplementary,Witcherfans would like to seethem each get a moment or two of glory in the show. Triss and Vesemir would both certainly deserve it.
The Witcherwill make its Netflix debut on July 21, 2025, and it’salready been renewedfor a second season.
