Netflix has announced four new castmates to join Henry Cavill forThe Witcherseason three. Among the names isShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsstar Meng’er Zhang.

The second season ofThe Witcherstarted as a slow burner, setting up for a more complex and more profound story, ending with an action-packed finale and cliffhanger. Season two took the world by storm; side characters stole the hearts of fans, Ciri learns the origin of her powers, and thankfully the muddled timeline from season one was scrapped. Earlier this April, Netflix announced thatThe Witcherseason 3 had started production, hopefully signalling a December 2022/23 release. And seeing how Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt are beginning their journey together, fans are likely to see an expanded world with new monsters, adventures, and characters.

In more recent news, Netflix revealed on Twitter four new cast members who will be joining the team in creating a thrilling story. Joining the cast is CW’s Robbie Amell as Gallatin,Shang Chi’s Zhang as Milva,Mamma Mia’s Hugh Skinner as Prince Radovid, and Theater superstar Christelle Elwin as Mistle. Described as a born fighter, Amell’s Gallatin is the leader of the guerrilla army Scoia’tael, whichfights on behalf of Nilfgaard.

Skinner will portray Prince Radovid, the royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir. Elwin is set to play the street-smart Mistle, a member of the rats, which is a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and mostly give to themselves. Zhang plays Milva, a human adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest. Zhang is the perfect actress for the role, as her experience in performing action sequences fromShang-Chiproves that she will be exceptional at playing a formidable adversary.

Netflix has been praised for the diversity ofThe Witcher’s cast, where many of the main side characters played by people of color have extensive development and avoid damaging stereotypes. In an interview with Game Rant,Zhang emphasized the importance of casting actorsfrom differing cultures, especially for younger viewers. Zhang highlighted the importance of writing more female Asian characters in media to empower young girls. Netflix has already cast Zhang’sShang-Chicastmate Michelle Yeoh, who will play Scion in the elven-focused prequelBlood Origin, showing that the representation of Asian characters in western entertainment media is headed in the right direction.

With an ever-growing talented cast, season three looks promising. And seeing as how Cavill has a pretty strong influence in ensuring thatproduction stays true to theWitcherbooks, fans can look forward to discovering easter eggs and references toThe Witchergames and novels in season three. But with the release date of season three out of sight, fans will have to contain their excitement for now.
