The biggest bosses in video games aren’t necessarily the most dangerous, but they do tend to be the most impressive.Baldur’s Gate 3has a wide variety of bosses of all shapes, and a few of them are of intimidating size. Players can often talk them into submission instead of fighting them provided they can pass the dice rolls.
These aren’t the most powerful bosses, but the ones that are the largest, and how tough they are to fight and defeat isn’t always measured by their size. The design of a character is really about the story behind them and doesn’t always reflect how hard they are to defeat.

6Grym
Guards The Adamantine Forge
Grym is the steely guard of the Adamantine Forge, and to use this ancient machine to craft the ultimate weapon, armor, or shield, it must be defeated first. This is a giant robot made out of the hardest and most durable metal that exists in Faerun, and it’s not only one of the biggest booses but also the most difficult.
It’s possible to defeat Grym just by attacking him the old-fashioned way, but it takes forever, and very few conventional weapons or even spells do any damage. Of course, it’s got massive resistance to fire and only takes bludgeoning damage, so make sure someone with a high Strength score has a hammer or club.

The trick is to open to valve and fill the floor with lava to soften him up, then bring down the massive hammer to crush it. Try to make sure none of your companions are also underneath the hammer when that happens.
5Thisobald Thorm
The Waning Moon, Reithwin Town
A gigantic undead creature who might have been some kind of elf at one point, Thisobald Thormis the most sympatheticof all of the bosses in Reithwin Town. He’s waiting for the protagonist and their companions in the Waning Moon, a location that players should visit anyway to get the ledger and complete the quest “Punish the Wicked.”
It’s unclear exactly what happened to Thisobald to make him into this giant bloated thing, although it’s probablyconnected to the toxic brewhe’s been drinking. If you drink with him and pass either a series of Constitution or Dexterity checks, he’ll blow himself up without a fight. Watch out when he explodes, but this is more dangerous when the party fights him and can’t get out of the way in time.

4The Owlbear
In Her Nest In A Cave By The River
The Owlbear mama is the biggest animal that theplayer meets in Act 1, and she’s a tough fight if you decide to finish her off. On the other hand, the player can succeed in a dice roll and choose to walk away and return later, when all that remains is the Owlbear cub and some handy loot, including an Owlbear egg that’s worth a fortune.
When the owlbear first appears in the cave, there’s a spear from the previous fight she was in, likely one that involved goblins. If the plan is to kill her the best time to try is now, when she’s still missing a few hit points from the previous fight.

3Ansur
In The Sanctum Beneath The Wyrmrest Trials
It’s disappointing to find out that the legendary bronze dragon and city guardian, Ansur, is a rotting corpse underneath Baldur’s Gate. It stings even more when it’s revealed that the Emperor knew the whole time because he’s the one who killed him.
Ansur rises to take his revenge, and this enormous beast is one of the toughest fights in the game and there’s no way to talk this angry zombie out of it. He flies, of course, and has several devastating AoE attacks in a battleground that has little or no refuge.

2Ketheric Thorm As The Avatar Of Myrkul
In The Mind Flayer Colony Beneath Moonrise Towers
When this fight starts,Ketheric is of normal size, but after the player defeats him in the first round, he calls upon his god and becomes an avatar of Myrkul. He takes on the visage of a giant winged skeleton wielding an equally large scythe, and the AoE damage is something you want to avoid.
He’s huge, but the first part of the fight involves a mind flayer, several intellect devourers, and several of Kethric’s bodyguards, along with the Nightsong unable to help, so it’s much more difficult. By the time Ketheric turns into a giant avatar of the God of Death, his various minions should also be dead and the Nightsong should be freed, so it’s just a matter of living long enough to beat him down.

1Netherbrain
Waiting For The Final Fight, Hiding Deep In The Sewers
When the Netherbrain first rises from the depths of the caverns beneath Moonrise Towers at the end of Act 2, it looks enormous, and towers over everything. The same can be said for when the protagonistfirst confronts the Netherbrainat the end of Act 3, and when it finally falls into the city harbor along with the Netherese crown.
There aren’t any tricks to defeating the Netherbrain because the real challenges are reaching the portal to its hidden lair and avoiding the disappearing platforms. How many hit points it has depends on how the initial rolls went, and only a natural 20 can reduce them any significant amount.
