Summary
The third season ofThat Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slimeexplores the aftermath ofRimuru’s retaliation against the Kingdom of Falmuth, the Western Holy Church, and his ascension to the status of Demon Lord in title and as a lifeform. In the wake of Rimuru’s ascension, the Church’s leadership of the Church’s military, the Temple Knights, had a meeting to discuss what to do next.
As a result, this third season has seen the introduction of a number of characters with varied loyalties. So, just who are the Ten Great Saints of the Western Holy Church of Lubelius?
The Holiest of Knights
The Church’s Most Promising Talent
The Ten Great Saints are a division of the Holy Empire of Lubelius’s Western Holy Church’s military outfit, the Temple Knights, originally created by Lady Luminous Valentine. This particular crop of knights was handpicked with the intention ofcultivating a group of heroesunder Valentine’s command. These heroes became the responsibility of the Clerics of the Seven Luminaries to train; however, due to their corruption, they led many heroes to their demise, all to prevent themselves from being surpassed within the hierarchy of the Church. After the arrival of Hinata Sakaguchi, the knights were split into two groups: the Crusaders, led by Hinata; and the Rook Geniuses, led by the Holy Emperor himself (Louis Valentine). The top three Rook Geniuses were further dubbed “The Three Battlesages”, and they served as the Holy Emperor’s personal guard.
The Great Saints And Their Titles
Paladins and Rooks
The members of the Ten Great Saints each possess a title tied to either Paladin or Rook, because prior to Hinata’s arrival, the two companies within the church were more distinct. The Rook Geniuses were led by Saare when Hinata arrived; however,she challenged him and took his place, becoming the leader of both Crusaders and Rook Geniuses.
Hinata is the leader of the Crusaders and Rooks, presiding over the internal affairs of the Western Holy Church with more insight than anyone else as she knows the truth behind it and the Luminous Faith. Having bested the Trials of the Seven Luminaries, Hinata became a figure of prominence within the Church second only to the Holy Emperor.
Hinata’s second-in-command vice-chief of the Temple Knights is also known by the title “Paladin of Light” or “Childe of Light” due to his being chosen by the elemental of light. He hasgreatly admired Hinata Sakaguchiafter being saved by her during an attack by the Demon Lord Valentine. During season 3 ofThat Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime, he is misled by the Clerics of the Seven Luminaries to lead an army to Tempest to quell suspicion that Hinata has become loyal to Demon Lord Rimuru.
Considered the strongest after Hinata Sakaguchi, Arnaud Bauman is one of the Holy Knight Captains. His title is sometimes translated to Paladin of Space due to the nature of the kanji used to write the word “sky”, which is alsoused for “air” and more cryptically, “aether"or “void”; hence “space”.
The tall and sturdy Bacchus definitely reflects the element with which he is associated.
Ritus was sent on a reconnaissance mission to Tempest prior to the current confrontation. Her name is also sometimes transliterated as “Litus”.
Hotheaded and extremely proud, Garde accompanies Leonard when he leads an army to Tempest, and faces off against Shion together with the Holy Knight vice. He has his ear blown off and pride demolished when Shion easily tanks his most powerful move without so much as a scratch.
With a more playful personality than some of his colleagues, Fritz has been a point of comedic relief here and there since his introduction. His combat style is a combination of Wind Elemental magic and swordsmanship.
The head of the Rook Geniuses prior to Hinata’s arrival, Saare is one of the Three Battlesages and the strongest of the trio. Due to losing his position to Hinata, he has become rather bitter and confrontational towards her in meetings, but will still try to contribute positively. He is very brave in combat, trying his best to hold off Diablo by himself even after figuring out that he is something beyond a Demon Lord anda possible Calamity-Class threat.
Also known as “Glenda of the Raging Sea”, she is along with Grigori and Saare, one of the Three Battlesages. However, despite this position, she is involved in the current conspiracy as she is seen meeting with Eastern merchants and a nobleman known as Granville Rosso. She is quite pragmatic, and unafraid to abandon an ally to save herself.
Grigori of the Giant Boulder is a large man who possessesthe ability to harden his body. He serves as Saare’s right-hand man and is one of the Three Battlesages. Despite immense defensive capabilities, he was easily defeated by Ranga. The encounter has supposedly left Grigori with a fear of canines.
