Now that theSupergirlseries on the CW has officially come to an end, it appears its big breakout star is looking to do something entirely different. A new report reveals that the woman who played Supergirl, Melissa Benoist, is slated to take on a starring role in a new political comedy for HBO Max,Girls on the Bus.
While Benoist is bestknown for her Arrowverse character, which she played from 2015 to 2021, theSupergirlactress has had a pretty steady career. That includes a couple of appearances in theLaw & Orderfranchise. While those appearances were relatively small parts, it’s possible she could lean on that experience when she transitions to this new political comedy.

Varietyreports that Benoist’s addition to the upcoming series is in talks and those talks are expected to culminate in an agreement. If she does sign onto the HBO Max series, she’ll be reteaming with Warner Brothers and executive producer Greg Berlanti. While shefirst teamed with Berlanti onSupergirl, she quickly became so popular she also worked with him on several other Arrowverse shows because she was considered the heart and soul of that universe.
Should she joinGirls on the Bus, she would be taking on a role in a show that will be a political drama with some comedic elements. The show will be based on the book “Chasing Hillary,” which was written byThe New York TimesCorrespondent Amy Chozick. Representatives for HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television declined to comment on news of Benoist being in talks for the series.
ShouldtheSupergirlstarjoin the HBO Max show, she’d be one of four female journalists who have been tasked with documenting every move of a group of deeply flawed politicians who are all running for higher office. The reporters are said to not only chronicle the campaigns but also forge friendships with one another while discovering scandal every once in a while.
The book is actually based on the two presidential campaigns by Hillary Clinton, though the character that Benoist would play, as well as the politicians and the other reporters, will all be fictionalized when the show joins HBO’s growing catalog of original programs. There isn’t a great deal else known about the show or who else might be joining the cast. The show has been in a kind of purgatory over the years, switching different networks before HBO Max decided to move full speed ahead withGirls on the Bus,while it appears a different actress will take over the role ofSupergirl in the DCEU.
