Star Wars Outlawsgoing all-in on its scoundrel archetype for Kay Vess gives it a lot of unique opportunities that have become second nature inStar Warsmedia. There are a handful of outlaws whom the titularStar Wars Outlawscan take inspiration from, fueling Kay and the story with a bunch of influences as multiple crime syndicates are explored in different parts of an open-world galaxy. It’s already wonderful that Massive won’t be pulling any punches when it comes to Kay’s combat, but it could also have a huge advantage by leaning into some stealthier aspects of such rogue characters.

Stealth will seemingly play a large role inStar Wars Outlaws, at least if players want it to. There are likely routes intended for pure offensive or pure passive gameplay, though stealth has been shown in both thegameplay reveal and story trailer forOutlaws, meaning it’s likely a valid and valuable strategy when drawing a blaster may alert too much attention to the player. It’s unknown how in-depth the game’s stealth mechanics will be beyond melee takedowns and having Nix interact with the environment in dynamic ways, but a camouflage or disguise feature could make for a narratively impactful Princess Leia Easter egg.

How Disguises Could Enhance Stealth in Star Wars Outlaws

There’s not a high likelihood that disguises are included inStar Wars Outlaws’ stealth mechanicsat all because, if they were, they’d have surely been portrayed by now in the footage that’s been shown thus far.

That said, stealth would be extraordinarily thrilling if Kay could wear stormtrooper armor, a crime syndicate’s notable attire, or any other person’s clothing to assume someone’s identity or blend into a dangerous crowd. Stealth wouldn’t have to consist wholly of crouching around behind enemies, for instance, and could allow players to be a fly on the wall during conversations she’s not meant to overhear.

This would be particularly satisfying if players had already devoted themselves to one crime syndicate and wanted to gain intel on others, assuming their guise and eavesdropping with the knowledge that they could be discovered and slain at any moment’s notice. Likewise, this wouldallow Ubisoft to tetherOutlawsandReturn of the Jeditogetherin a meaningful way concerning Leia and how she was able to make her way into Jabba’s palace.

Star Wars Outlaws Should Depict Boushh’s Demise

Ubese bounty hunter Boushh attempted to blackmail the Black Sun and was killed for it, but apparently not many knew of his death and that’s why Leia was able to successfully impersonate him at Jabba’s palace inReturn of the Jedi. The Black Sun hasn’t been brought up yet in an official capacity for Ubisoft’s open-worldStar Warsgame and yet it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re present at all in the main campaign or side quests due to their prominence as anOutlawscrime syndicate.

It would be brilliant now if Massive gives Kay a way to execute Boushh on a kill order from the Black Sun and cement her as the character who actually took his life. Then, having dealt with him, it would be neat to see Kay be able to don Boushh’s clothing and impersonate him the same way that Leia later does—this would double down on Leia’s gimmick for the sake of fan service, but giving Kay a boss fight with Boushh would allow her to earn the outfit and dispose of it later in a way where Leia could then retrieve it, connecting those loose lore details between characters.

Even if Boushh’s gear could only be worn in a scripted scene where players need to infiltrate someplace or sneak by someone it would be a great opportunity for that piece of canon to have a clearer explanation. Plus, it would tie Kay into theStar Warscanon concretely, which is more than can be said of any actions performed byStar Wars Jedi’s Cal Kestisat this point.
