Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseended on a cliffhanger leaving audiences wanting more. The official art book for the movie gives some important details about the character fans saw at the film’s ending.
Originally,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseand its sequel,Beyond the Spider-Verse,were one film. Eventually, the creators realized that there was too much content and split it into two parts. With a two-hour and sixteen-minute runtime,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewas already long for an animated film. There are eventwo versions ofSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Versein theaters. Fans who did not realize the film was split into two parts were even more shocked whenAcross the Spider-Verseended on a cliffhanger.

The officialSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseart book reveals that the Miles seen at the end is a Vigilante and not necessarily a villain like some fans believed. “He has fallen into the role of becoming the vigilante the Prowler, under the tutelage of his uncle Aaron.” In the art book, one of the film’s co-directors, Justin K. Thompson, says, “Internally, we decided to call this parallel-world version ‘Miles G. Morales’ to avoid confusion.”
Another co-director of the film, Kemp Powers previously talked about the status of Miles G. Morales. In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Powers said, “For people who see Miles G. Morales at the end, don’t judge a book by its cover. There’s a lot to learn about that character. It’s a very, very interesting character.” Additionally, Powers talked about the character on theHigher Learningpodcast, saying, “I wouldn’t call him evil Miles. Straight up, I would not call that dude evil Miles.”
Some fans on Twitter have replied to the news of Miles G. being a vigilante by saying they want him to be a Villain. One reply on Twitter says, “That’s an L he should’ve been a villain,” while another user wrote, “A villain would have (been) preferable honestly, I wanted to see the contrast between a good and bad Miles."
It is important to realize that the term vigilante could mean several things. Miles G. Morales could kill the bad guys. Spider-Man is also considered a vigilante, and so is The Punisher, yet they are very different characters.
