The announcement of the follow-up device to Sony’sPlayStation VRheadset piqued the curiosity of many virtual reality enthusiasts. Yet Sony held back from unveiling the full device, as the design of thePlayStation VR 2headset itself is still likely being finalized. It’s unclear when Sony will move forward and fully reveal the PlayStation VR 2, but there is evidence of it happening sooner rather than later. For example, a new website focusing on the PlayStation VR 2 and its features is now available online.
Sony’s new PlayStation VR 2 website does not appear to have any new information regarding the virtual reality headset, its controllers, or any of Sony’s release plans. The website as it stands simply collects the information previously announced in one place, with a nice graphical presentation. Since the headset for the PlayStation VR 2 has yet to be revealed, all the photos on the website are for thePS VR 2’s two motion controllers. Still, it’s good to have all the information in one place.

What the website does do is instill hope that Sony is preparing to share more information about the PlayStation VR 2 headset in the relatively near future. Rumors and speculation have pointed to aholiday 2022 launch for the PS VR 2. If that turns out to be true, then Sony will want to reveal the headset relatively soon so that it can focus on showcasing VR games for the PS5 in the back half of the year.
As for what the website shows now, there’s repeated language regarding a “next-generation” step forward for virtual reality and key features like4K HDR visualsand PS VR 2 Sense technology. More specifically, the website mentions the PS VR 2 features two 2000 x 2040 OLED displays that support up to 120fps, 110 degrees of field of view, and eye-tracking cameras to help improve detail where players' vision is focused. There’s even a brief description regarding in-headset rumble.
Later sections of the website break down the PlayStation VR 2’s controllers, which include features like haptic feedback, adaptive tracking, and precision finger and touch tracking, and the first game announced for PS VR 2. That game beingHorizon Call of the Mountain, a first-person spin-off for theHorizonfranchise.
Suffice to say, there’s a lot to be excited about in regard to the PlayStation VR 2. The new website presents a compelling case for Sony’s next-generation VR headset. It’s also hopefully a hint that more information will be shared soon, and perhaps a full reveal of thePS VR 2 headsetitself.
