A huge part ofSkyrim’s continued relevancy since its 2011 release can be massively attributed to the never-ending creativity of the modding community, which has kept the game fresh for over 11 years. Modders have even continued to use modern technology to revamp Bethesda’s classic RPG, with one recent mod adding anAI-generated voiced protagonist toSkyrim. The ambition ofSkyrim’s modding community has been unmatched over the years, and it seems as though this will continue for some time yet.

The mod was released by mod author Ryn2g, who is known for their reworks of much ofSkyrim’s world. This time around, Ryn2g has focused on the games 22 dragon burial mounds, with a desire to add an updated level of detail and more interesting encounters, all while sticking to Bethesda’s style of level design. The author claims that his new dragon mounds are “more consistent in their structure, more exciting to explore, and above all, should be mostly incompatibility free.” The dragons inSkyrimhave been receiving particular attention from the modding community recently. One recentmod added friendly dragons toSkyrim, bringing a host of new dragon NPCs for players to interact with.
The changes brought by Ryn2g are hugely welcomed.Skyrim’s dragons were a huge selling point of the game originally, so players may have been disappointed by what many perceive as a lack of attention to detail to the game’s dragon burial mounds. While modders have brought dragons mostly up to date, there’s still an element of clumsiness about them that can’t be modded out, and there are plenty of videos online showcasing glitches with the game’s dragons. There’s even one video showcasing aSkyrimdragon’s head sticking out of the ground. Bethesda games are known for these types of bugs, and many players feel they add to their charm.
While the ambition ofSkyrim’s modding community continues to grow, it continues to face the reality ofSkyrim’s aging engine. Unfortunately, many of those limits are being hit, and many players are now just waiting forThe Elder Scrolls 6. WithStarfield’s release date still unannounced, players are completely in the dark about when they might hear more about anElder Scrollssequel. After over 11 years of waiting, player patience may start running thin after too much longer.
