With this kind of structure, trophies and achievements aren’t just for bragging rights, but useful tools in their own right. Until the player gets the platinum, there’s always something more to do or discover. Note that some of the later achievements are normally hidden, and some players might consider them spoilers.

When played normally,Sifuisn’t the longest game. While it won’t be completed in an afternoon, it also won’t be an epic journey lasting hundreds of hours. That being said, fully completing the game will probably take much longer, possibly multiplying the player’s time investment.

This is partially due to the sheer amount of trophies, a whopping 43, and partially becauseSifuwon’t have difficulty options at launch. Players will just have to put their nose to the grindstone to finish the more difficult challenges, like the punishingly strict “Prodigal Child” trophy, which barely allows for any deaths, or the “Kill Nil” achievement, which allows for none.

There’s currently no stated time frame for when difficulty settings will be patched in. The game’s executive producer, Pierre Tano, spoke about them more as a hypothetical than a surely planned feature, and whether they go through with it will depend on player feedback.

If they are added, there’s no guarantee that they will make certain trophies easier to earn. The game already disables achievement progression in training mode, so there’s a precedent for blocking the path of least resistance.

Sifuis available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
