Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale spin-off ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, is out now and free-to-play. The game has quickly become the fastest-growing battle royale yet, with millions of gamers logging in just in the first week alone. It’s clearly the new hotness, but players are still discussing whether or notCall of Duty: Warzoneis a great game or not. Mixer streamer Shroud is already comfortable drawing some conclusions. One of Shroud’s latest YouTube videos is titled “THE BEST COD YET.”
Clearly,Shroudhas a positive opinion ofCall of Duty: Warzone. He starts off the video by saying that he’s having a lot of fun with the new battle royale game. Shroud’s only characterization for his opinion is thatWarzoneis “Chaotic as ****.” He means that in a positive way, of course, in that it’s fast-paced and filled with often unpredictable action.

From there, Shroud starts comparingWarzonetoApex Legends.Apex Legendsbeing Shroud’s most-played game in recent months prior to the launch ofWarzone. He starts by referring to one of hisbiggest criticisms ofWarzone, which is its audio problems. He then says he makes an exception forWarzonein this regard because of its “scale,” but he doesn’t forApex Legends. Scale, in this context, is meant to mean the size ofWarzone. Specifically, the number of players in a given match and the size ofWarzone’s map.
Shroud goes on to compliment the developers ofWarzone, Infinity Ward andRaven Software, saying that it’s impressive from a technical perspective. He lauds howWarzonefor offering such a content-rich experience that still manages to perform really well. “What they managed to achieve is pretty nuts.”
DirectlycomparingWarzonetoApex Legends, Shroud agrees thatWarzonehas four times the population ofApex Legends. He goes on, saying it has, “four times the loot, the chaos, map size, everything.” … “It’s impressive, for sure.” Needless to say, Shroud will be playingWarzoneprimarily for the relative future.
To be fair toApex Legends,Shroud is very much a “Flavor of the Month” gamerwhen it comes to battle royale titles. Going back to when Shroud retired from competitive gaming full-time and took up streaming, he habitually jumps from shooter to shooter. He’s often very complimentary to start and then grows bored and more critical. Nevertheless, that doesn’t take away from whatWarzonehas achieved in the interim.Call of Duty: Warzonehas captured lightning in a bottle in early 2020.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
