If there is one thing video games and theme parks have in common, it’s the need to keep fans coming back. Video games often do this through events or DLC, such asMario Kart 8’s Booster Course Pass, while theme parks have special seasonal events and so on. The latter keeps fans coming back all year round, instead of just visiting once. From the sounds of it,Super Nintendo Worldwill also embrace this sort of approach, but what it offers is fun regardless of how many visits someone makes, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.
Game Rant recently visitedSuper Nintendo Worldand was able to sit down with Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi to talk about the new theme park at Universal Studios Hollywood. One question we posed was how Super Nintendo World will keep fans coming back, and Miyamoto thinks the park itself could be enough.

That’s not to say there won’t be seasonal things. There are a few things that can be done on the programming side, according to Miyamoto, to adjust for things that come up in the future, and he’s sure those running the park will do a great job of keeping fans coming back. However,Super Nintendo World’s attractionsalone are enough to keep fans coming back. One of the attractions is an AR adventure called Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and the fun of it never gets old.
For Super Nintendo World, I am sure you’ve experienced Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. It’s an attraction that is fun the first time you play it. You play it ten times, it’s even more fun.
Furthermore, the Power-Up Bands of Super Nintendo World award players as they interact with the world around them and allow them to accrue coins. Because of the general set-up,the level of interactivity in Super Nintendo World, and the various attractions, Miyamoto adds that “the world is set up in a way that really makes it fun and makes you go back again and again.”
It will be interesting to see how Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge may be adjusted as the seasons come and go, as well as any other attractions at the park, but the core design of it is fun for the whole family. Miyamoto and Takahashi don’t believe parents will be on the sidelines as kids have fun, as one thing that Super Nintendo World’s focus on Mario does is bridge generations. The park’s design is appealing to children who have never played aMario game, as well as parents or grandparents who grew up on them. Because of this, it stands to reason that visitor retention/repeat visits won’t be a problem for Super Nintendo World.
