The upcoming reboot ofSaints Rowwill hit the streets next month, with fans able to dive into a brand new iteration of the titular gang. Players will break away from the other gangs and take overSanto Illesofor themselves, all from a decrepit church on third street.Saints Rowis making a few changes from the past games, but one thing any fan will notice is the lack of purple.

Purple is the color of the Saints, but at the start of the game, fans aren’t quite Saints yet. It’s hard to imagine the iconic color completely fading into the background, though. During a recent interview, Game Rant spoke with a Volition developer and UI artist Cailyn Talamonti about this color play inSaints Row.

There wasn’t any special or specific reason for this move away from purple, with Talamonti citing the tone change and thenewSaints Rowstoryas things that played into it here. TheSaints Rowkey art shows teal is a new dominant color, which Talamonti described as an “intentionally neutral color that…could be leveraged in ways that sometimes purple cannot.

This choice of teal also comes from the southwest influences on Santo Illeso:

“It is also like in the southwest, which is where we got a lot of our inspiration from, there are those turquoise stones. I think that was another reason. It’s a neutral, non-explicit Saints color because you don’t start as the Saints. It’s a whole brand new town. It’s a brand new cast. I think it’s something fresh and eye-catching.”

At the same time, this shift away from a domineering purple theme allows Volition to better emphasize importantSaints-related things with occasional dashes of purple. Players will see the Saints symbol at one point, and it’ll come with hints of purple. There’s been a few showcases of purpled tied to thenewSaints Rowbosstoo, and it’ll likely continue to play an important, if perhaps underlying, role in the upcoming game.

“In terms of color language, we can then save purple for important Saint things.”

In other words, players can expect to see purple inSaints Row,but by saving it, Volition can add emphasis to certain scenes and special moments in the game. This color defined theSaints in past games, and it will likely continue to do so, but players will be working their way up to that title and the color associated with it in the reboot.

Saints Rowis set to release on July 03, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
