The rumor is the game may move to the latest possible time to count as 2022. This is a little concerning as moving out of September leaves little room for a release before the Holiday and awards season. On the upside, a move to early 2023 will moveGod of War Ragnarokout of a release window that seems congested. With theSaint’s Rowreboot,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,The Callisto Protocol,The Last of Us Remake, and possibly many other AAA and indie games with the generic “2022” placement yet to be officially pinned on to an exact date.

Multiple sources obtained by VGC and other insiders suggest that the release ofGod of War Ragnarokmay fall just barely out of 2022. The source cited claims that multiple “European sources” believe that the sequel game may be or already slipped to possibly 2023. There’s also evidence from retail listings that were recently changed. A tracker that keeps up with release windows on digital storefronts saw a change in theGod of War Ragnarokfrom September 2022to December 2022.
There is a tight window whereGod of War: Ragnarokcan release in time for Holiday and awards season, but spots are limited for one of the busiest times in the year. A possible slip into 2023 undermines some confident claims made by Sony Santa Monica developers, studio executives, and industry insiders that still claim thatRagnarokis still pushing for a 2022 release. Sony Santa Monica head Cory Barlog andGod of War Ragnarok’sAnimation Director Bruno Velazquezboth spoke confidently earlier this year thatGod of War Ragnarokwill be hitting the 2022 date.
With Summer Games Fest happening soon and Sony aligning more with the show than previously anticipated, it is possible and almost expected that there could be new gameplay or a cinematic trailer that will lock in the release date at the end. It has been all but confirmed by Studio Santa Monica staff thatGod of War Ragnarokwill make an appearance at Summer Games Fest. Fans are sure to be on pins and needles as the trailer ends and hopefully reveals a set date in 2022.
