TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfarereboot in 2019 is seen by many to be a return to form for the franchise, utilizing a new engine for the first time in years and making some significant steps forward. TheCall of Dutygames released since then have earned middling reviews, withCall of Duty: Vanguardhaving some of the lowest review scoresin the history of the popular first-person shooter franchise. This has translated to some of the lowest sales thatCall of Dutyhas seen in years, which is apparently having an impact on the next game in the series, the rumoredCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, not to be confused with the 2009 game by the same name, is believed to be in active development at Infinity Ward for release in 2022. Reputable leaker Tom Henderson has spoken about the game on multiple occasions, with his latest claims being about how Activision plans to reveal this year’sCall of Dutygame and when exactly it will be released to the masses.

Henderson believes that the2022 version ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2will be revealed at some point this summer. This would be in line with how Activision has revealedCall of Dutygames these past couple of years, as it opted to wait until later in the summer to showcaseCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold WarandCall of Duty: Vanguard. Before it would usually announce the nextCall of Dutygame well in advance of E3 every year.

As forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s release date, Henderson has heard “rumblings” that the game could be launching in October as opposed to November due toVanguard’s poor sales. It seems that Henderson’s sources believe that Activision may be looking at pushingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2out a month earlier than expected because of the lack of interest inVanguardwhen compared to otherCoDtitles, though fans should take this information with a grain of salt.

While Henderson has proven to be reliable in the past, it’s always best to treat information from leakers with skepticism, especially since they rarely provide concrete evidence to back up their claims. After all,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s release date could very well be planned for October for reasons that have nothing to do withVanguard. While theCall of Dutyserieshas largely stuck to November launches, it wouldn’t be the first time that it released in October instead.

Henderson also mentions that there will be a bigCall of Duty: Warzoneupdatereleased sometime afterModern Warfare 2launches, but there are no additional details on what that may entail.
