Summary
A remake of the critically acclaimed JRPGPersona 4is said to be in development, according to a reliable Sega/Atlus insider. If true, this could be exciting news for fans of both the originalPersona 4and the recently released remakePersona 3 Reload. Unfortunately, though, there’s a catch to this news.
Persona 4was released back in 2008 for the PlayStation 2, and it has yet to receive any from-the-ground-up remakes. Some other games in the series, meanwhile, have gotten proper remakes on later platforms.Persona 1,Persona 2: Innocent Sin, andPersona 2: Eternal Punishment, for instance, received PSP-exclusive remakes, with the latter of the three having only been released in Japan. Meanwhile, Atlus just released a remake of the originalPersona 3titledPersona 3 Reload, which received rave reviews from critics and becamethe fastest-selling Atlus game ever. Fans who enjoyed the modernization ofPersona 3’s rather dated elements inReloadmay be excited to hear thatPersona 4could be getting the same treatment, but they may have to wait a bit.

According to a tweet from Atlus insider Midori, aPersona 4remake is still currently in development. But, in response to an individual asking about the status of the rumored project, Midori tells fans to “please wait for a while.” This likely means that it may be several years until fans get official confirmation of this game’s alleged existence. Given thatgames have long development cyclesthese days, chances are this rumored remake ofPersona 4might not even be released during the current console generation. As such, those hoping to get their hands on this game may want to hold their breath in regard to a potential release as early as 2025 or 2026.
This isn’t the first time rumors of aPersona 4remake have sprouted up. Back in February 2024, Midori briefly mentioned that there wereremakes of bothPersona 2andPersona 4in the works at Atlus, in addition to one forPersona 1. Fellow insider I’m A Hero Too also corroborated these claims. They further stated that thePersona 4remake was years away from development and that it had not entered production yet. This statement from I’m A Hero Too seems to hold more credibility now thanks to Midori making a similar claim.
A Potential Remake of Persona 4 Is Likely Still Years Away From Release
Some fans have expressed the sentiment that a remake ofPersona 4is unnecessary, since the game is not nearly as dated asPersona 3was. Others, on the other hand, are ecstatic about the idea of aPersona4remake because they’d like to see it brought up to the standards set byPersona 3 Reload, whichdoes things better thanPersona 5in some instances. Nonetheless, it’s perhaps best for those interested inPersona 4to just play the game right now, since it appears the rumored remake is still far out from being revealed.
