Summary

Superhero games seem to be everywhere these days, yet no one has really attempted a supervillain-centric game. Even after dozens of Batman and Spider-Man games, players have never gotten their chance to step into the shoes of the most popular rogues. Then, when studios get close to delivering something like that with games likeSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, they still feel like superheroes in all but name.

With the release ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, players will finally control some of the popular villains from Batman mythology. If that proves successful, then fans may be craving even more adventures like that. But instead of following that model, the next villain-centric game needs to go all in on the concept so that players get something that they have never really seen before.

A Supervillain Game is Long Overdue

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill be taking popular DC villains and forcing them to team up in a brand-new action-adventure experience. Instead of having them do classic bad-guy things, this team will actually be saving the world.Brainiac has taken control of the Justice League, and it is up to the Suicide Squad to stop him. So, even though they are villains, they will likely be painted as the heroes of the story.

This is not the first time that DC has taken popular villains and made them the heroes, nor will it likely be the last. Not only do theSuicide Squadfilms do this very thing, but so didTraveller’s Tales’LEGO DC Super-Villains. In that game, players go on an adventure led by some of DC’s greatest villains. However, those villains were tasked with stopping the villainous Justice Syndicate rather than engaging in classic villain shenanigans. That made for a fun story, yet it took the villain concept only so far.

Neither game really lets players run wild with the concept of villains, which is a shame as the characters offer virtually limitless storytelling potential.Films likeJokerhave shown that putting villains at the forefront pays off immensely, yet the video game industry seems to be avoiding that idea for some reason. But afterSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehits store shelves, that will hopefully change.

SinceSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill give playerscontrol over popular DC villains, it could serve as a test of sorts to see if players are actually interested in something like that. If it pays off, then it may finally be time for a fully-fledged villain story. And since countless villains are waiting to be adapted, there is so much potential for a unique experience.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League announces Lawless as Season 3 playable character

A supervillain game could put players inthe shoes of characters like Joker, Lex Luthor, Thanos, or Loki and let them sow chaos across the world. They could be tasked with world domination, taking down the heroes, or simply going on an adventure in the style of games likeGrand Theft AutoorSaints Row. During this adventure, they could engage in all sorts of villainous acts as they make their mark on history. Plus, they could also delve deep into what makes these characters tick.

There is a ton of potential for a supervillain game like this, as long as the right villain is chosen. Even Insomniac’sVenomgame will likely not let them unleash chaos within the world, but hopefully a studio delivers on that concept sooner rather than later.
