Capcom made known its plans for the immediate future of theResident Evilseries during the Resident EvilShowcase event that was broadcast on October 20, and the long-delayed multiplayer titleResident Evil Re:Versewas a major part of the presentation. Initially set to release alongsideResident Evil Villagein 2021, the PvP title’s status laid in limbo for quite some time, but it’s now known thatResident Evil Re:Versewill officially launch alongside theWinters’ ExpansionDLC on October 27, and it seems that Capcom has prepared at least three major post-launch content updates.

When it was first revealed more than a year ago,Resident Evil Re:Versewas met with significant backlash from the community. Perceived by many to be an unnecessary multiplayer-focused spin-off that haphazardly clashed legacy characters and environments together and spoiled established canon, few expectedResident Evil Re:Verseto rise above previousmultiplayer-centric series flops likeResident Evil ResistanceandUmbrella Corps. Now, however, perceptions seem to have shifted slightly, and Capcom’s confirmation of ample post-launch updates suggests that this may outshine the franchise’s previous PvP efforts.

Resident Evil Re:Versewill launchwith six survivors, five creatures, two stages, a challenge mission, and a thirty-tier battle pass, and post-launch patches will introduce a total of three survivors, seventeen costumes, three challenge missions, an extra stage, and sixty more battle past tiers coming in three separate post-release updates. The publisher also insists that more content will come after the fact, though that promise is likely predicated on the health of the game’s player base in the weeks and months following its release.

Given that little concerningResident Evil Re:Verse’s inner workings is currently known, it’s hard to say how worthwhile this lineup of post-launch content will be. However, there is no debating the richhistory ofResident Evilcharacters, creatures, scenarios, and areas from which the developers have to pull. What’s more, canon doesn’t seem to be a concern, and, while that may irritate some longtimeResident Evilfans, it also presents some unique possibilities from a gameplay and presentation perspective.

Resident Evilfans who aren’t interested inResident Evil Re:Verseneedn’t be disappointed; much of the fan base is currently looking forward to the release of theResident Evil 4remake in early 2023. The recent Resident Evil Showcase saw the debut of two trailers for the title which hint at the fact that, in spite of the graphical overhaul, the heart of the fan-favorite series entry has been preserved. Regardless, it’s certainly an exciting time to be a fan of the seminal survival horror franchise.

Resident Evil Re:Versewill be available on October 27 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
