Someone decided it would be a good idea, or at least interesting, to live streamResident Evil 4with a mod which allows Twitch chat users to impact how the game is played. The results were, as many can imagine, quite entertaining. WhileResident Evil 4is a solo experience, there’s no reason playing can’t be a team effort. After all, much like theTwitch Plays Pokemon streams, where viewers send commands to the game via chat, there’s an amusing appeal to allowing the audience to influence what’s happening, enabling that extra sense of interactivity.

Generally considered by many to beone of the greatestResident Evilgames of all time, the fourth entry in Capcom’s flagship survival franchise took things in a different direction after the previous three installments laid the groundwork not only for the series, but for the genre overall. With the remake on the way, there will no doubt be renewed interest in the B-movie style antics of one Leon Kennedy. However, that’s still a few months away, so many are playing the original 2005 release.

Playing the likes ofResident Evil 4is one thing. For many, it’s a slice of nostalgia. However, in the case of Twitch streamer Bawkbasoup, it was an opportunity to get others involved in the gameplay. Streaming the game with the CrowdControl mod installed, the content creator encouraged those in chat to influence what would happen in the game. This meant users could essentially mess with Bawkbasoup by shrinking Leon down to a tiny size, causing him to run in slow motion, making enemies huge, or just straight up killing the protagonist for fun. It really adds to the silliness ofRE4, even if it means progress in the game becomes difficult.

Resident Evil 4is already something that doesn’t take itself seriously, so seeing Leon run around as a pint-sized version of himself is certainly amusing. Given what’s been seen of the upcoming remake, it looks as though the studio will be taking the game into somewhat darker territories, so it remains to be seen whether it will retain any of the original’s more goofy aspects. That’s not to say fans aren’t looking forward to the remake, and in fact, early 2023 is shaping up to be a good time for horror fans.

With the original 1996REbeing regarded asone of the most influential horror games of all time, building off the groundbreaking success of 1992’sAlone in the Dark, theResident Evilseries has stood the test of time, and while there was a middle period in which the franchise began to stray from its roots, things have never looked better for the iconic survival games.

Resident Evil 4releases on Jun 09, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
