2019 has been a good year for mods, as creative fans cram their favorite games and pop culture references into the best games of the year.PokemonSwordandShieldare no exception to thecreative fervor of talented fans, and a new mod has added one ofPokemon’s oldest competitors to the latest games.

A modder who goes by the username Hollow on Game Banana has replaced one of the most popular Pokemon evolutionary lines with the flagship monster from theDigimonseries. The mod itself is a simple skin replacement that replaces the Pokemon’s character model inPokemon SwordandShieldwith the Digimon.

The mod takes Charmander and the related evolutionary line andreplaces the classic Pokemon with Agumonand his related evolution tree, without making any changes to how Charmander behaves in-game. This creates a fairly jarring result for fans who may remember the long running competition between the two monster battling franchises. However, the quality of the mod is also surprisingly high, with Agumon blending seamlessly into the art style ofPokemonSwordandShield, with only a few modelling issues.

The mod even allows for Agumon to evolve into Greymon and Metalgreymon as the underlying Charmander evolves into Charmeleon and Charizard. Charizard also appears as Wargreymon, courtesy ofPokemon SwordandShield’s massive Pokemon battles. Modder Hollow also has a number of other mods available forSwordandShield, including aSplatoonfont that is highlighted in the above video.

WhilePokemonandDigimonhave often butted heads, especially among fans pitting the two franchises against each other in memes, putting them together is a fairly welcome sight. It’s doubtful that the two monster battlers will ever come together in anything other than fan creations, but at modders at the very least have answered the call to combine these two long running franchises. Those same modders may even combining the other classics competitors to Nintendo’s giant, likeYu-Gi-OhandMonster Rancher.

However, crossovers mods like this may be a little more rare due to the fierce competition betweenPokemonandDigimon, perpetuated by years of players quickly jumping to take sides.
