Technical Machines, or TMs for short, have been withPokemonsince the first generation. Unlike Hidden Machines (HMs), TMs could only be usedonce, and usually, there was only one type of TM per playthrough, with a few exceptions. This changed withBlack/WhiteandX/Y, where there was only one copy of a TM per version, but they could be used more than once. WithPokemon ScarletandPokemon Violet, TMs will disappear after being used. However, another copy can be made using the TM Makers around Paldea.
To create TMs,Scarlet & Violetplayers will need League Points (LP) and Materials. Unlocking more TMs for crafting can be accomplished by picking up a TM on the ground or doing the Starfall Street mission. Materials and LP can be farmed easily, but there are ways to simplify the process.

7Get League Points from Tera Raid Crystals
Terastallization and Tera Raids are new gameplay mechanics forPokemon Scarlet/Violet. Much like the Pokemon Dens inSword/Shield, Paldea is full of Tera Dens. In the overworld, they appear as a giant mass of colored crystals. Upon entering a Tera Den,Scarlet/Violetplayers can battle a Terastallized Pokemon in a Tera Raid. However, each time the player character interacts with a Tera Den, they’ll receive League Points. The number of League Points will vary onthe star rating/level of the Tera Den. 5-Star Tera Dens will give around 1k LP, while 1-Star Tera Dens will give significantly less.
It should be noted that players do not have to enter the Tera Den to get these League Points, meaning they can hop from one Tera Den to another and farm League Points without battling. Players will want to remember that at 12am local time, new Tera Dens will spawn around Paldea. This isn’t the only method thatScarlet/Violetplayers can farm League Points, but it is one of the quicker ways and hardly requires any work.

6Help Cassiopeia with Operation Starfall
Before the player character embarks on their Treasure Hunt, they’ll be given three different storylines: Victory Road, Path of Legends, and Starfall Street.Helping Cassiopeia take down Team Starin Starfall Street is a good way to earn League Points. Additionally, each time players earn badges from Team Star, Cassiopeia will unlock TMs at the TM Maker. These are exclusive TMs and can’t be picked up in the wild.
Players will also receive a set of various Materials as a bonus. Therefore, if players are still in the process of clearing Starfall Street, it’s not a bad idea to lend Cassiopeia a hand to farm some of the ingredients needed for TM Crafting.

5Use Auto Battle
Scarlet/Violetintroduces Auto Battle, where players can send out their Lead Pokemon with theR buttonand have them battle nearby Pokemon. Using Auto Battle will farm Experience and Materials, but it won’t earn them EVs, and any new Moves learned via Auto Battle will need to be viewed on the “Remember a Move” page.
Auto Battle relies solely on Type Match-ups and Levels. For example, sending out a Fire-type against a Grass-type Pokemon will cause an orange music note to appear above the Fire-type, while sweat drops will appear over the Grass-type. If a Pokemon is “struggling,” then it may lose HP during Auto Battle. When the Lead Pokemon’s HP gets into the red, it will return to its trainer. It’s recommended to use a high-leveled Pokemon when farming Materials via Auto Battle.

4Mark the Materials Needed
If players “speak” to the TM Maker, they can view every TM they’ve unlocked. Hovering over a TM will allow players to “mark” them with the(+) button. As its name indicates, marking will alert players once they’ve gathered enough Materials for a TM. Once players have the required amount (or more), a pop-up window will appear saying, “You’ve got everything you need to make a TM in your watch list!” TM Marking is good to use if playerswant a specific TMor if they’re planning on making more than one copy.
Players can also exchange Materials for League Points at the TM Maker.

3Look for Mass Outbreaks
Similar to earlier generations' Swarms, Mass Outbreaks are a feature in which multiples of a species of Pokemon spawn in one area for a limited time. The Mass Outbreaks inScarlet/Violetare moresimilar to the ones inPokemon Legends: Arceus, but unfortunately, players can’t hurl Poke Balls at them from a distance. To catch a Pokemon in a Mass Outbreak, players will need to engage the Pokemon in battle. A wave of new Mass Outbreaks will appear at 12am local, just like Tera Dens. On the map, players can see where a Mass Outbreak is taking place. There will be an icon of the Pokemon surrounded by a faint aura. If the Pokemon has not been caught yet, then it will appear as a black question mark.
Mass Outbreaks can have well over 50 Pokemon. So if players intend on farming Materials from a Mass Outbreak, it will take forever. To remedy this, use a high-leveled Pokemon with a Type Advantage, and have it Auto Battle the Mass Outbreak Pokemon. This will farm Materials much quicker than trying to fight the Pokemon one at a time. Just send out the Pokemon with theR buttonand let it do its thing.

The Lead Pokemon willnotbattle any Shiny Pokemon that appear in Mass Outbreaks.
2Complete Tera Raids
Another way to get Materials is to take part in Tera Raids. Successfully completing one will earn players a set of rewards. The reward amount can be increased byhaving theRaid PowerMeal Effect active, which is gained from eating certain foods at restaurants/food stands or by making sandwiches. Keep in mind that Raids are much more difficult than an average Pokemon battle. 5-6 Star Tera Raids may have more Materials, but players will want to bring a Pokemon with a good Raid Build to the fight.

1Defeat/Catch Evolved Pokemon
AsScarlet/Violetplayers climb into the higher-leveled areas, they’ll stumble upon Evolved Pokemon (ex: Gabite, Luxio). Defeating or catching an Evolved Pokemon will givex3 Materialsinstead of x1 from unevolved Pokemon (ex: Pichu, Fidough). A Material farmed from an Evolved Pokemon will be the same type as its previous Evolution’s Materials. For example, defeating a Beartic will give x3 Cubchoo Fur, not x3 Beartic Fur. If players are struggling to find an Evolved Pokemon, they cantry getting anEncounter [Type]Meal Effect.
Look for Mass Outbreaks of Evolved Pokemon and send out a Pokemon to Auto Battle them to farm Materials.
