Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Pecharunt’s Backstory and Motives Explained
While it’s sad thatPokemonfans will only be able to experience this new reveal in the lore of Kitakami through external sources, the recent video does shed light on Pecharunt’s sad backstory and what led to the confrontation against Ogerpon. In the video, Pecharunt is depicted as an old couple’s Pokemon, and though it loved them, it feared they would stop loving it or love it less under various circumstances. So, Pecharunt made them its signature poisonous mochi seen in theMochi Mayhem epilogueto try and control the couple as well as other Pokemon so they would get gifts and love the peach critter more.
But the old couple started wanting more and more, and at some point, they demanded Pecharunt go to the land of Kitakami to find glimmering masks they had heard of, and so the creature did. Because the journey was long and dangerous, Pecharunt needed friends and companions to bring along, eventually enlisting the help of Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti. The four traveled toPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Kitakami, and there they found Ogerpon and its human companion wearing the most beautiful masks.
Why Pecharunt’s Story is Much More Tragic Than The Events of Mochi Mayhem Reveal
The Loyal Three and Pecharunt tried to steal the masks so that the peach Pokemon could bring them to its owners and make them happy, possibly loving it more. However, Ogerpon’s human companion found them out and attacked them, eventually losing his life. The Pokemon fled with the masks, but were eventually found by Ogerpon, who went on a rampage and killed them all, save for Pecharunt, who stayed in its dormant state for a long time. As much asOgerpon’s story in The Teal Maskis heartbreaking, Pecharunt’s is not too dissimilar - if not even sadder.
Pecharunt lost its friends on a journey away from home just to make sure it would be loved, and with so much time having passed, it will never be able to meet the old couple again. Initially seen just as an evil creature, Pecharunt’s manipulative nature is probably due to its fear of not being loved, with love (or the desire of which) always playing a part in its actions. This is one of the most natural human desires, makingPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s story all the more relatable.
