Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC was overall considered a success after the disaster that was the Isle of Armor for Gen 8 games, and while it’s not necessarily anything revolutionary, it’s still a good story with new critters for players to catch. One of the most uniquePokemon in The Teal Maskis the cross-gen Applin evolution called Dipplin, which has been talked about a lot for several reasons, one of which is that it’s the only Gen 9 pocket monster to have a “shiny” signature move. Another reason why Dipplin has been a topic of great interest is that it supposedly will evolve in The Indigo Disk - something that’s been heavily hinted at by leakers.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Teal Mask confirms Dipplin’s evolutionin a way because the critter can hold and take advantage of the Eviolite, an item that benefits Pokemon that can still evolve and are currently in an unevolved form. This was believed to be a glitch, but since there has been no mention of this in terms of bug fixes, it seems to be fully intended. More importantly, a renownedPokemonleaker called Riddler Khu has been hinting at a Dipplin evolution, and the most recent rumors see it as having seven heads.

Why Dipplin’s Leaked Evolution Could Have 7 Heads in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

The fact that Dipplin will likely evolve in a different DLC is not an entirely new concept, asPokemon Sword and Shield’s Galarian Slowkingcame after Galarian Slowbro in the Crown Tundra expansion. What makes Dipplin’s case interesting is that The Teal Mask’s Pokedex entry states how this critter is actually made by two wyrms inside the candy apple, with one being the tail and the other the head. WithPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk, this mon is rumored to gain not one, but five more heads with its evolution.

This originates from Riddler Khu’s most recent series ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetriddles involving multi-headed mons, starting with a one-headed critter. The two final riddles were the most convoluted and interesting, with the sixth being about Falinks as the only Gen 8 mon available inPokemon GOnot listed in a picture by Khu, and the seventh being a QR code for Barbanacle. Falinks is a Spartan-like creature made of six units, each with its own head and body, whereas Barbanacle is made of seven Binacle heads combined - two for the feet, four for the arms, and one for the head.

Khu also stated that this was the final part of this riddle series, leading fans to believe that it was about a new Pokemon that would have seven heads. A popular theory was that this was all related toPokemon Black and White’s Original Dragonand how a three-headed mon would be the mascot for a newPokemon Legends Unovagame or some form of sequel or remake, but this was proven wrong. While Hydreigon would be a good candidate, the most likely critter this riddle is referring to is indeed Dipplin, especially considering its Indigo Disk evolution.

Given that the base Dipplin already has two heads, its evolution having seven is not as far-fetched, and it will seemingly be themed around hydras. There are multiple mythological creatures with seven heads, such as dragons, but hydras are often associated with just nine heads when that number can change. Dipplin’s evolution is most likely not a newMythical Pokemon in The Indigo Disk DLC, but its connection to mythology and its being a Dragon-type Pokemon is an interesting touch if Game Freak is indeed giving the evolution a total of seven heads.
