Pokemon Legends: Arceusoffers players the opportunity to catch nearly 250 species of Pokemon in the wide, sprawling open world of the Hisui region. Players are encouraged to catch multiple Pokemon of each species in order to complete research tasks and fill out the Pokedex. Players ofPokemon Legends: Arceusare also able to hunt down and catch special Pokemon, including extra-large Alpha specimens and uniquely colored Shiny Pokemon.
Shiny Pokemon are extremely rare, having an approximately 1/4096 chance of spawning in the overworld. When aShiny Pokemon spawns, it makes a distinct sound to inform players that it has appeared. Unlike previousPokemontitles, overworld Pokemon are also visibly shiny, making them visually distinct from normal members of their species. Players can increase the spawn rate of Shiny Pokemon by completing research tasks for a species and by equipping an item known as the Shiny Charm, which can be acquired by reaching Research Level 10 with all 242 Pokemon in the Pokedex.

On Reddit, a user going by the screen name u/Jasmiinx shared a helpful flowchart, crafted by their husband, that providesLegends: Arceusplayers with information about how to reliably hunt Shiny Pokemon. The flowchart explains that Shiny Pokemon have a greater chance of showing up in Mass Outbreaks - in-game events where a high number of a specific Pokemon appears for a short period of time. Theappearance rate for Shiny Pokemonin Outbreaks is much better - a mere 1 in 152.9. According to u/Jasmiinx’s flowchart, players can save and reset the game if a Shiny Pokemon does not appear in the Outbreak, essentially encountering the same Outbreak over and over again until a Shiny specimen appears.
u/Jasmiinx is only one of the manyPokemon Legends: Arceusplayers taking to Reddit to share their experiences with Shiny Pokemon. Other examples include a player whoencountered two Shiny Shinx at once, an encounter so rare that the odds are almost impossible to calculate. Others have shown off their Shiny collections, discussed their favorite Shiny Pokemon designs, or recounted their experiences with particularly shy or particularly aggressive Shiny specimens.
Fortunately, players who are not interested in hunting Shiny Pokemon using the u/Jasmiinx’s flowchart can still add at least one Shiny Pokemon to their collection while completing requests for Jubilife Village residents. An early in-game request, known as ‘A Peculiar Ponyta,’ requires the player to investigate reported sightings of an odd-colored Ponyta in the Horseshoe Fields sub-section of the Obsidian Fieldlands region. This ‘peculiar Ponyta’ is none other than aShiny Ponyta, which players can catch for themselves.
