Summary
APokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer took to social media to point out that one of Paldea’s native Pokemon, Revaroom, cannot learn U-Turn, adding that The Pokemon Company missed a golden opportunity to give Revaroom the move. This discovery sparked a discussion with otherPokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers, with some bringing up what U-Turn’s name is in other languages, and others bringing up some Pokemon that had similar missed opportunities.
Known as the Multi-Cyl Pokemon, Revaroom is a Steel and Poison dual-type Pokemon that was introduced inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.Revaroom evolves from Varoomat level 40, and can also be found in the wild in the North and East Provinces of Paldea. Revaroom can also be found in five-star and six-star Tera raid battles and can make use of Tera types such as Fire and Ground to counter its weaknesses to those same types. However, Revaroom has low special defenses that can be exploited by stronger Pokemon that can withstand its physical attacks. Though it can learn moves such as Gunk Shot, Iron Head, and Spin Out, onePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer claimed that Revaroom is capable of much more.

Despite the fact that Revaroom is one of thetop Poison-type Pokemon in competitive battlesdue to its high attack stat, a Redditor named PEMDAB pointed out on the r/pokemon subreddit that U-Turn is not one of the moves that Revaroom can learn inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. The OP claimed that because Revaroom’s design is based on hot-rod cars, it should be able to learn moves with names that fit the theme of the Pokemon, including U-Turn. In aPokemonbattle, U-Turn is a physical Bug-type attack with a base power of 70, and it allows trainers to switch out their Pokemon immediately after it hits the foe. This means that U-Turn can be used as a way of escaping an unfavorable situation.
SomePokemonfans chimed in to explain that U-Turn’s name in Japanese roughly means “dragonfly somersault” and justified that as the reason why U-Turn is a Bug-type attack. Other Pokemon trainers sympathized with the OP’s claim and stated that Gholdengo was in a similar situation with its inability to use Surf despite depictions of it using a golden surfboard made out of coins. WhileGholdengo has fallen out of use competitively, that has not stoppedPokemonfans from defending it and other underutilized Pokemon.
Nevertheless, U-Turn remains one ofthe top Pokemon moves in the competitive battle scene. With The Indigo Disk DLC coming in Winter 2023 toPokemon Scarlet and Violet, it remains to be seen if Pokemon such as Revaroom will have their move pools changed.
