Professor Oak is one of the most iconic characters of thePokemonfranchise, being the player’s first real gate into the world of the first game. One talentedPokemonfan-made an incredible 3D animation of Professor Oak’s lab from the original Game Boy game.
Professor Oakis a character from the originalPokemongamesRed, Blue,andGreen. He is the grandpa of the player’s rival, a famous Pokemon researcher, and serves as the catalyst who begins the player’s journey as a Pokemon Trainer by giving them their first Pokemon, asking them to choose out of three starters. Oak also appears in the original anime adaptation of the games.

Reddit user MattOnyx posted an animation he made of Professor Oak’s lab fromPokemon Red, Blue, and Greenversions. The animation is in the original Game Boy’s color scheme and pixelated style capturing the lab in the perspective seen in the game. The view moves from facing the lab to panning closer to the Pokeballs containing thestarter Pokemon, and then pans back to where it started.
The pixelated style of the animation keeps to the originalGame Boygraphics, but it doesn’t look as 3D as one would expect. It does however the animation pans the view in a way that the original game wouldn’t be able to, bringing a different perspective to the lab that hasn’t been seen very often. It’s a simple animation, but it’s visually stimulating to watch.
This isn’t the first timeOak’s lab inPokemonhas been recreated in 3D, but it is a great homage to the originalPokemongames and how simple they used to be back in the day. These games never had color, so it was all up to the player’s imagination, and the official art of the Pokemon. ThePokemongames have only gotten better throughout the years, but it’s always good to go back and remember where it all started.
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that there’s a time whenPokemon Blue and Redwere the only games in the series now that there are so many these days.Pokemonhas continued to be one of the most popular video games of all time, especially the original 150. WithPokemon Scarlet and Violetreleasing later this year,with potential for two regions in onePokemongame, fans are in for a treat. The legacy will continue, as long as there are fans to keep it alive.
