Summary
A skilled and inventivePokemonfan is getting noticed for their impressive original artwork which transforms Flygon into a futuristic mecha version of itself. The unique art piece retains the majority of the major elements that define the fan-favorite Pokemon while adding plenty of mechanized flair to create a unique concept that appears to be resonating with others.
First introduced as part ofPokemon’s third generation, Flygon is a dual-type Ground/Dragon Pokemon, which is also known as the Mystic Pokemon. Evolving from Vibrava beginning at level 45, Flygon is the final evolved form of Trapinch. While it has a drastic metamorphosis from Trapinch to Flygon, only gaining its Dragon typing after its initial form, Flygon is widely considered to be one ofthe best Dragon Pokemon designsin the franchise’s long-spanning history, something the fan artist took full advantage of.

The impressive mecha version of Flygon comes courtesy of prolificPokemonfan artist and Reddit user shunixe, who posted their latest creation to one of the site’s mainPokemonforums. The artist excels at keeping many of Flygon’s identifiable features intact, including its distinct green coloring, massive geometric wings, and its large antennae. The entire body surface however is overhauled with futuristic plated armor, with detailed mechanical inner workings visible near joints. This version of Flygon also appears more battle-ready, with its limbs and tail far thicker and more pronounced than its standard counterpart.
This is hardly the first time shunixe has posted a mecha version of a Pokemon, as the artist has now racked up quite a few. A few weeks ago, shunixe made headlines for their impressivefuturistic mecha form for Leafeon. Utilizing similar hexagonal armor plating to the Flygon above, the Leafeon art makes deft use of Leafeon’s organic features, keeping it easy to discern yet giving it a distinctively futuristic look. A clever detail to both Leafeon and Flygon are their Pokedex entry numbers, stylized as the mecha’s serial number.
The mecha Flygon post has accrued plenty of likes, with nothing but praise from others filling the comments section. The fan-made design almost looks like it could be a future form counterpart to another fan’sfusion art of Flygon and Slither Wing, the ancient paradox form of Volcarona. The fan art keeps the structure of Flygon, but applies the “textures” so-to-speak of Slither Wing, resulting in what looks like a prehistoric dragon-moth.
While Flygon wasn’t initially included inPokemonScarlet and Violet, the Pokemon is finally coming to the game as part of the titles’upcomingThe Indigo DiskDLC, in addition to plenty of other returning Pokemon.
