While the gauntlet-wielding Talon leader of theOverwatchuniverse, Doomfist, is still fulfilling his role inOverwatch 2as a damage dealer, it appears most of the damage is not coming from his notable weapon. It isn’t to sayDoomfist’s weaponis lacking for general power, as the charged punch is still delivering plenty of damage in a single hit. The issue at hand, as one player has shown, is the overall DPS and time-to-kill for the charged punch are proving to be much slower than the standard melee attack thrown with Doomfist’s normal hand.
Doomfist, as mentioned above, is the head of theglobal terrorist organization Talon, which consistently finds itself at odds with the series' titular organization of heroes and peacekeepers. The man born Akande Ogundimu is not the first Doomfist either, but instead the third to carry the name and eponymous gauntlet into battle to rise through Talon’s ranks to eventually become the organization’s leader by the time of the firstOverwatch. Narratively, he is in hiding after escaping imprisonment but continues his work to sew discord between humans and omnics in an effort to carry out Talon’s goals of elevating humanity through conflict.

As for how he performs inOverwatch 2, the DPS and TTK disparity was shared on the series' official subreddit by user 900FOG, who took Doomfist to the game’s training course to highlight. 900FOG first shows the damage from a single charged punch from Doomfist’s gauntlet-armed hand, which still deals a considerable amount of damage but is not a one-hit kill, and the cooldown results in a slower TTK. By contrast, the basic melee from the unarmed hand still does less damage in a single hit but has a much faster TTK than the charged punch.
It is the latest in a growing list of critiques and problems currently plaguingOverwatch 2, ranging from flipped places in victory or play of the game screens to damage and cooldown bugs, which can ruin matches completely. An example of the latter involvesTorbjorn and Bastion, both of whom have been taken out of competitive play as of this writing due to the bugs. In both cases, players had been able to spam the ability button for Torbjorn’s Overload to keep it going indefinitely while Bastion’s artillery barrage could essentially paint the map and bypass the intended three-shot limit.
By comparison, the damage and TTK disparity for Doomfist is one that players could debate how much of an issue it is compared to some of the aforementioned issues.Doomfist’s new role as a tankinOverwatch 2puts him in a different position when it comes to balancing versus when he was originally added to the game as a DPS hero. It is possible the slower TTK on the charged punch was a balancing choice by Blizzard to fall in line with his new role, though only time will tell.
Overwatch 2is currently available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
