Oda’s ability to build up tension is simply brilliant, and it has helped him create some very shocking moments. He is able to keep the information well hidden until it is finally time to lift the curtain. With so many brilliant revelations in the story, it is hard to choose only a few, but here are some that are more memorable than the rest.
7Luffy’s Devil Fruit
For the most part of the story,One Piecefans were under the impression that Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi was just an ordinary Paramecia-type Devil Fruit. Oda had not even insinuated that the Devil Fruit was special in any way until the Wano Country arc.
When it was finally revealed that Luffy’s Devil Fruit was actually a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the fans were left absolutely flabbergasted. It was confirmed that Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi was calledthe Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. The World Government had covered up the Devil Fruit’s name in an attempt to prevent its true nature from being discovered.

6CP9’s Betrayal
One Pieceis a series about pirates, and it is common knowledge that they do not have any principles except for a few exceptions. However, the lack of morality can also be found within the Marines and the Cipher Pol. During the Water 7 arc, the Straw Hats met many members of the Galley-La.

They thought of them as regular shipwrights, and it didn’t cross their minds that they might be members of the second most dangerous Cipher Pol in the world. When Lucci and Co. finally revealedthemselves as CP9 members, the Straw Hats were bamboozled. This reveal was definitely one of the main highlights of the arc.
5Raizo Is Safe
When the Straw Hats went to Zou, they found out about how Jack and his underlings had nearly destroyed the entire Mokomo Dukedom while searching for Raizo. The Minks were leftscarred and bloody because Jack refused to believe that Raizo was elsewhere. The Straw Hats couldn’t believe that Jack injured so many Minks while looking for someone who wasn’t there.
But when Kin’emon came out to face the Minks, all of them began to walk toward the samurai. The Straw Hats thought the Minks would kill Kin’emon for what they had to endure. Instead, Nekomamushi and Inuarashi sat down and confirmed that Raizo was safe.

4Ace’s Father
Portgas D. Ace was introduced as Luffy’s older brother, so naturally, fans thought he was also the son of Monkey D. Dragon. But Oda left the audience speechless in the Marineford arc when he revealed that Ace had a completely different parentage. Before starting the execution, Sengoku confirmed that Ace was the son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger.

This was a massive revelation, as it meant that the Pirate King’s bloodline still lived. The reveal shook the entire world, and it changed how people perceived Ace as a character. It also raised many questions, which were subsequently answered in the post-Marineford arc.
3Kanjuro As Traitor
Kanjuro was presented as one of Oden’s retainers. He traveled with the legendary samurai and served him. Kanjuro even agreed to be boiled alive alongside Kozuki Oden. So, when Oda revealed that Kanjuro was the traitor who was selling information to Orochi and Kaido, it left everyone stunned.
Kanjuro was revealed to be a member of the Kurozumi clan. Orochi played on his hatred for Oden and the others, which resulted in Kanjuro becoming a spy for him. For years,Kanjuro kept up the pretense, only revealing his true intentions decades after Oden’s death.

2Sabo Being Alive
The trio of Ace, Luffy, and Sabo is among the most iconic in the series. The three characters explored the wilderness together, which helped them become stronger in both mind and body. All three of them had the goal of setting out to sea at one point. However, Sabo was forced to leave early due to his parents.
Unfortunately, the day Sabo was leaving, a Celestial Dragon saw his boat in the water and considered it blasphemous that a lowlife would dare to tread the same waters as him. So, the Celestial Dragon shot Sabo’s ship, and he was presumed dead. It wasn’t until the Dressrosa arc that Sabo was confirmed to be alive. This was an emotional moment, especially for Luffy, who realized that he still had an older brother.

1Imu Being Superior To The Five Elders
The Five Elders are considered to be the sovereignsof the World Government. Throughout the series, they have made big decisions that have drastically affected the world. Due to this reason, the Five Elders were considered one of Luffy’s final opponents. However, in the Reverie arc, they were seen bowing to someone else.
They addressed the individual as Imu, and this person is the true ruler of the world. They sat on the Empty Throne and passed down instructions to the Five Elders. Imu’s orders are then carried out by the Five Elders. It was truly astonishing to see the Five Elders being answerable to someone else.
