Summary

Star Warsofficially updated its list of the various eras in which stories are being told, and one particular entry could hint at something fans have been eagerly awaiting. While this list is little more than a timeline to be used for reference,Star Warsis nothing without its Easter eggs. So, let the hunt begin.

When Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney in 2012, it began a process that eventuallyreset the canon of theStar Warsuniversein 2014. This meant that anyStar Warsbooks, video games, or other media released before that time aside from the mainline films andThe Clone Warsanimated series were no longer part of the official franchise timeline. The reception to this change was mixed; one side praised how it allowed more freedom for new stories to be told. But on the other hand, many beloved entries would now be seen as “Legends” and would have no part in the official canon anymore.

One such entry is the hit video gameKnights of the Old Republic, which told a compelling story of player-guided redemption or even corruption set 4000 years before the originalStar Warsfilms. The canon reset rendered the game and its sequel into uncertainty, but it also led to the actual Old Republic era effectively being wiped from the timeline. This even led some to assume the newly-established “High Republic” era set in a more recent time might replace it. However, things may be returning to how they were. TheofficialStar Warswebsitenow lists the Old Republic with a new description, hinting that upcoming projects may return to that engagingly turbulent time in a galaxy far, far away.

The new description reads, “The Republic is founded among the worlds of the Galactic Core, and the Jedi Order emerges to protect it. A schism within the Jedi leads to the creation of the Sith in this epic era.” This is the second time fans of this period have been thrown a bone recently, as apreviousStar Warscanon updateofficially added The Old Republic back into the official timeline, albeit without this description. The new synopsis remains largely in line with what fans will remember from the lore behindKnights of the Old Republic. But much could change within the wide parameters it sets.

It seems that this particular time in theStar Warscanon has been a bit popular around rumor mills lately, as there have even been hints that anew project connected toKnights of the Old Republicwas in production before the writer and actor strike in Hollywood. It wouldn’t be surprising to see, asKOTORand its follow-upKnights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lordsremain fan favorites. While the games give players the freedom to choose their path, the overarching stories themselves are still compelling, with galaxy-spanning adventures dealing in plenty of action, intrigue, and even gray morality.

Between that and some possibleKnights of the Old Republicconnections inAhsoka, it’s clear that the Old Republic love is still alive and well. Not only are fans still clamoring for more, but more official areas seem to have been slowly creeping their way back into that era. While nothing is confirmed, this is still some super promisingStar Warsnews.
