New Worldhas a unique way of immersing new players immediately upon creating a character. In the spirit of old-school sandbox games, each player wakes up on a beach with almost nothing to work with. Before planning those resource-gathering routes and making those customized outfits, getting off the beach alive is the more immediate concern, asthe land of Aeternumis harsh and unforgiving. Before reaching the first settlement, players can make a camp and put together some basic survival tools. Upon arriving, they have access to workshops and crafting tables that make more complex gear.

There’s a wide variety of equipment that players use inNew Worldother than just weapons. Certain tools are more important than others, and not just for resource gathering. Some early quests require the player to craft certain items as part of an informal tutorial process. It is also important not to overlook items like potions, jewelry, and furniture, as they can all come in handy during the adventure.
10Flint Skinning Knife
This is often the first tool most players construct. It can be made with a simple combination ofgreen wood and flint, two items that are easy to pick off off the ground almost anywhere in Aeternum. All that’s required is a simple campfire to get it done.
Most players will make this immediately anyway, just as a result of experimenting with the camp and some random materials down by the beach. However, there’s also an early quest that requires players to make a camp and kill and skin wolves. Gamers will need a skinning knife for this.

9Wooden Fishing Pole
It might take a level or two to make a basic fishing pole, because it requires one ingredient that’s a bit tougher to find:hemp fiber. It’s worth it to scout some out, not only to make a fishing pole but just to grind up the Harvesting skill.
In addition to honing Harvesting skills, Fishing is one of the most lucrative and interesting professions in the game, yielding a lot more than food. Players can also catch treasure chests and extra-large or exotic fish, which can lead to great profits.

8Iron Ingots
Even before characters can use iron to craft, they should mine it whenever they can anyway. Iron is a valuable resource that’s used for several professions, including Engineering, which becomes more important at higher levels once players have homes that need furniture.

Just abouteverything that players craft when they reach Tier 2 has iron in it,even clothing. It’s also important to have some iron handy when it’s time to upgrade those Tier 1 tools from flint into a stronger metal.
7A Cool Hat
Other MMOs come up a bit short in this regard, with helms either being fairly plain or with little variation.New Worldusesa mix of both fantasy and real-world historic design, so it features everything fromleather cowboy hats to conquistador helmets, along with sleek cloth hats with wonderful plumage.
Even a game that uses the survivalist angle as seriously as this one does still has to provide a few fun customization choices. Feel free to let characters express their fashion sense a little

6A Harvesting Sickle
This should really be the second thing people make after their knife, but then again, it all depends on the character’s own unique build. Herbs are one of the best ways to grind a variety of levels, starting with Harvestingas well as Cooking andAlchemy.
That’s why it’s important tostart collecting these plants as soon as possible, and a harvesting sickle is required. Remember that it needs occasional repair and upgrading, just the same way that armor and weapons do.

5A Musket
There are a variety of distance weapons in the game, and this is one option of many when it comes to ranged combat. However, only the bow and the musket are related to Engineering skills. Although that’s not exactly crucial early in the game, it becomes important later for a few important reasons.

Engineering is required to build furniture and repair kits, along with other more complex tools and trinkets. These become more important as characters progress, so a musket is vital later on.
4Cut Stones
Cut stones themselves aren’t really useful until housing and furniture come into play at level 15, but stone is often found near flint and is just as readily available. Collect stone as a way to grind up the Mining skill, then cut the stones back in town to level the Stonecutting skill. This isn’t just for construction, but for other related accessories as well.
Certain pieces of gear have sockets for gems even as early as Tier II, and it’s possible to fish up gems from treasure chests even if players can’t find them Mining yet. Gems can only be socketed once they’re cut, and the character needs to have an adequate Stonecutting skill in order to do this.

3Weak Healing Potions
These require only two basic ingredients that are fairly easy to find, and who doesn’t like to have a few extra healing potions on hand? They can be prepared at a humble campfire, with no need for a kitchen.
To make these, collect fresh waterfrom ponds, lakes, rivers, and city wells and combine it with a variety of herbs to make a weak healing potion. Most herbs will do, buthyssopseems to be the most commonly used.

2Weak Mana Potion
Unlike the weak life potion, it might seem that only mana-users should be interested in these, but that’s not entirely the case. This potion also requires two ingredients, fresh water and a variety of herbs, and can be crafted at a simple Tier I camp.

Players that don’t need to use them cansell them at the Trading Postafter using the recipe to grind up their Alchemy level, or can store them in the ample room granted in the Storage Shed. The lack of classes inNew Worldmeans that anyone can become a magic user if they want, so keep them just in case.
1Light Ration
When it’s time to retire to the inn or cuddle up next to the campfire, it’s nice to have a hearty meal. As it is in real life, there’s an echo of this in every MMO. Even before players can craft low-level potions, it’s nice to have a handy way to restore hit points after combat.
This handy ration can be crafted using a variety of materials, including meat, fish, berries, and nuts. Tt’s indispensable to have when traveling, even if it’s just around the Territory for a resource run.
