The upcomingPerfect Darkgame is mostly a big unknown still, years following its initial announcement. Currently under active development by The Initiative andTomb Raiderdeveloper Crystal Dynamics, the supposed reboot of the spy shooter franchise is yet to get a major showcase - gameplay or otherwise.
In a somewhat unexpected twist that may worry fans of the franchise,Perfect Darkseems to have just lost its Game Director, Dan Neuburger. However, the majority of the other veteran staff working on the project seems to be sticking with it still, and the game may even get its big reveal at this year’s E3.

Even thoughPerfect Darkremains a big mysteryeven years following its original announcement back in 2018, the project seems to be trucking along in the background. Neuburger’s departure does come as a bit of a surprise, as he had been with The Initiative for close to four years at this point, and would have played a major role in shapingPerfect Darkup until now. It’s also worth pointing out that he isn’t the first veteran to have left The Initiative during the production of this particular game.
Namely,Design Director Drew Murray left Perfect Darkin early 2021 to join Insomniac Games, though The Initiative did hire a number of high-profile industry professionals in the meantime, which means there are plenty of veteran game developers left working on the game. At this time, The Initiative is being led by Darrell Gallagher, the head of Crystal Dynamics, and the team had also signed up a group ofGod of Wardesigners, as well asTitanfallweapons designer Sean Slayback, among others, to help bringPerfect Darkto fruition.
While there are rumors ofPerfect Darkmaking its way to E3 2022, and even launching sometime in 2023 or 2024, it’s worth remembering that there’s been no hard, official information available on the matter just yet. It’s likely that the game will be a part of one of the near-future Xbox showcases, but there’s no telling whether that might happen sooner or later at this time.
Some rumors even claim thatPerfect Darkmight be a live-service game, not unlike the latestHitmantrilogy, due to the fact that Crystal Dynamics' Lead Producer, Cory Butler, had previously worked onAnthem,Marvel’s Avengers, andStar Wars: The Old Republic, among other projects. This topic, too, will be interesting to explore as more information about the upcomingPerfect Darkreboot becomes available, but it’s mostly unsubstantiated at the time of writing.
