Yesterday, an exciting new batch of Brutalities was added toMortal Kombat 11, giving players a great deal to be thankful for this holiday season. Indeed, many fans will be thrilled to have access to more finishing moves for Johnny Cage, Kano, and the Terminator, all of which can be unlocked by participating in the specialMK11Thanksgiving Towers of Time, but it is Baraka’s new Brutality that may stand out among the bunch.
This newMortal Kombat 11Brutalityis dubbed “A Leg Up,” and it sees Baraka bite down hard on the leg of his opponent. The vicious Tarkatan then proceeds to jam one of his iconic blades into the defeated foe’s kneecap, which he follows up by pulling a significant portion of the leg off and bludgeoning his adversary with it.

In the scope of Brutalities, this one already stands out due to its elaborateness, but veterans of the franchise are likely to notice that there is more going on here as well. Namely, the new Baraka Brutality is actually a reimagining of a Quan Chi Fatality fromMortal Kombat 9called “Beat Down.” While Quan Chi does not bite or stab in his old finisher, the spirit of these finishing moves is extremely similar, and many fans are sure to appreciateMortal Kombat 11’s nod to the powerful necromancer.
To note, this is certainly not the first time that a Brutality has been used to add a classic Fatality toMortal Kombat 11. Earlier this month, for example, Baraka received another new finisher called “Deep Cut” that is a nearly exact recreation of his decapitation Fatality fromMortal Kombat 2. Additionally, there are a myriad of otherMortal Kombat 11Easter eggsfor those that enjoy these types of references and throwbacks.
NetherRealm Studioshas continually stated that it has a great deal of support planned forMortal Kombat 11, and it is demonstrating that through the frequent addition of new Brutalities. While these finishers do not always reach the high bar set by the Baraka Brutality featured here, it is a treat to see the developer go the extra mile, and there are certain to be more Fatalities referenced through future finishing moves.
