Destiny 2is known for adding a plethora of new weapons with every big expansion, event, or new Season - be it Legendary guns with random rolls or Deepsight patterns, or even new Exotics.Lightfall changedDestiny 2at its very core, as it came with an overhaul of the mods existing in the game, a new approach to difficulty and how it scales in PVE content, the Strand subclass, a rework of how seasonal artifact mods work, and plenty more. Since Strand became a new damaging element inDestiny 2, Bungie also added Strand weapons that players can use in the Kinetic slot, with a recent addition in the form of The Immortal making Trials of Osiris extra popular.
While Trials of Osiris is typically a competitive PVP mode that’s not very casual-friendly, unlike some otherDestiny 2Crucible playlist activities, it’s not uncommon for it to include weapons that are great in PVE too - if not meta-defining, in some cases. Given that SMGs are in a great spot inDestiny 2right now, The Immortal became extremely valuable to PVE and PVP players alike both because it synergizes with Strand builds and because it has many great perks to increase its TTK - time to kill. With the Field-Tested Origin Trait and the Target Lock damage perk, The Immortal single-handedly increased the number of active matches in Trials of Osiris over the weekend.

Destiny 2’s The Immortal SMG Made Trials of Osiris Extra Popular
Trials of Osiris introduced several great weapons in the past, but the mode is not exactly the most popular inDestiny 2because of how hard it can be to get the Flawless status and start farming the best gear Saint-14 has to offer. Without Freelance Mode, players who go in solo are bound to eventually run into premade teams of three, which can quickly hinder farming sessions. Furthermore,Trials of Osiris weaponscome in two versions - the regular one and one with better stats, called Adept.
The Immortal (Adept) not only was the featured Adept weapon of the week inDestiny 2, but it also became the most-used gun in Trials of Osiris by a mile, almost hitting that 10% usage milestone according to Destiny Trials Report. Being the featured Adept weapon meant that those capable of going Flawless could easily farm the god roll for it, even though another popular method was simply reaching rank 10 on Saint-14’s tracker to get their first copy of the weapon and then focusing Trials Engrams to get the regular god roll.
Of course, in both cases, this is no small feat - farming Flawless cards takes time and a capable team, most of the time, whereas farming Trials Engrams can be quite the tall task given that they are only given at a rate of one per additional reputation rank. As such, The Immortal’s popularity, combined with a few changes toDestiny 2’s Trials of Osiris, resulted in a total of over 3.5 million matches played from Friday through Tuesday, with over 530,000 unique players involved.
This marked this past weekend of Trials of Osiris as the second most successful in the mode’s history, only surpassed by the September 2021 weekend when Bungie revamped the activity’s rewards and progression. It’s interesting to see how much The Immortal managed to drive traffic to Trials of Osiris after the Lightfall expansion launched, considering that players might still be below the Power Level cap or not done farming tounlockDestiny 2’s Strand Fragmentsor patterns for seasonal or Neomuna guns. Still, The Immortal is likely going to make quite a few rounds online the next time Trials of Osiris drop, and that’s a good thing.
Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
