The entire premise ofCobra Kaiis all about turning a known villain into a beloved hero protagonist. However, while everyKarate Kidfan now loves Johnny Lawrence, a new trailer tries to do the impossible for Terry Silver.

The teaser shared byCobra Kai’s officialTwitteraccount actually comes in the form of a shiny example of overproduction to promote Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) burgeoning business as the dojo moves to a new facility over in Encino. One of the big themes defining this newCobra Kaiseason has been Silver’s ambition to turn Johnny’s modest dojo into a massive franchise with reach all over the United States, and it sure looks like the shady sensei is throwing a lot of money at the problem so that he can “transform kids into champions.”

The concept is simple; gone is the amateur youth sports mentality of old-fashioned senseis like Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso, andthe disgraced John Kreese. That method makes way for a new modernized approach that will take Cobra Kai students to the next level with a fitness regime to rival the best organizations out there, be it esports or traditional sports. Instead, of Johnny’s improvisation and Mr. Miyagi’s backyard, Silver’s Cobra Kai aims to maximize cardiovascular health, muscle building, and nutrition for its students, so if that sounds too much like an ad, well, it’s because it is.

As captioned by the tweet, no one should feel guilty if they want to study karate under sensei Silver. However, it’s worth saying that Robby is nowhere to be seen among Cobra Kai’s star athletes, hinting that full reconciliation with his father after last season’s finale will see him leave the dojo’s ranks. Regardless of that, Kenny Payne andTory Nichols are Cobra Kai’s new star students, though not for long if Daniel and Johnny can make them see Silver’s psychopathic nature.

Contrary to Kreese, who is depicted as much of a victimized veteran as he is dangerous, Silver has so far been portrayed to be nothing more than a demented man taking advantage of kids, and to make matters worse, he has ample financial resources to pull it off, even if it means paying off refs. Naturally, Cobra Kai was bound to leave the rundown premises that Johnny had turned into the dojo’s home for something fancier, so expect to see Silver splurge on his mission.

Funnily enough, new cast member Alicia Hannah-Kim isn’t featured in the commercial either, but that might just be a case of her joining later, as anotherCobra Kaiteaser suggests she’s a fearsome rivalfor Daniel and company.

Cobra Kaiseason 5 will be released on Netflix on July 11, 2025.
