Obito Uchiha is one of the main antagonists in the world ofNarutothat Kishimoto introduced early in the story. Asa member of the famed Uchiha clan, Obito was blessed with the powers of the Sharingan. However, unlike most members, Obito was not a born genius. He had to work quite a bit to improve his skills as a Shinobi and even the awakening of his Mangekyo Sharingan came quite late.

Despite everything, Obito managed to reach incredible heights during his life as a ninja, be it as a good guy or a villain. One of his biggest strengths in combatwas the Mangekyo Sharinganwhich he awakened a few years after he tapped into the power of his Sharingan. Needless to say, Obito possessed one of the strongest Sharingan in theNarutoseries.
How Obito Awakened The Mangekyo Sharingan
Obito Uchiha wasnot like the average Uchiha geniuses.He was considered to be quite like Naruto while growing up, which means that he was often branded to be clumsy and simply stupid at times. Despite that, Obito shared Naruto’s dream as well and wanted to be Hokage. To that end, he pushed himself beyond all limits and, thanks to his kind heart, he eventually ended up tapping into the powers of the Sharingan. Obito achieved this power during the Third Great Ninja War in an attempt to save Kakashi. From there onwards, his powers only got better, however, unfortunately, they were short-lived.
Obito met his end in the war when he was crushed by a giant rock. His right side was completely crushed and even though his left side had survived, there was no way for anyone to rescue him. Before parting ways with his team, Obito gifted his left Sharingan to Kakashi and was presumed to be dead. In reality, Obito had survived. Having been saved by Madara, Obito spent quite a lot of time with him until he gained a body that was capable of fighting like before.
As soon as he was in the perfect condition to move, Obito rushed back to his friends, only to see Kakashi stabbing Rin right through the chest and killing her. Having loved Rin dearly, this traumatic incident triggered the awakening of his Mangekyo Sharingan in both eyes. The left eye that he gifted to Kakashi changed into the Mangekyo Sharingan at the same time as Obito’s very own right eye, thus, changing his life forever.
Obito’s Left Mangekyo Sharingan Ability
Obito Uchiha gained an incredibly powerful Mangekyo Sharingan, which isn’t surprising given the tragedy that he had to endure. His Mangekyo Sharingan ability is actually one of the most overpowered ones seen in the entire story. Simply put, the power of Obito’s Mangekyo Sharingan is known as Kamui. With this ability, Obito gains access to a whole new dimension where he can transport things to, including himself. The ability that he possesses in his left eye and right eye differ greatly. Since Obito had his right eye, he could use the short version of Kamui freely. This ability was used by him for the very first time when he encountered the mist ninjas who were chasing Kakashi and Rin shortly before the death of the latter.
Immediately, one could notice that the power of Kamui made Obito’s body intangible. Every attack that was thrown at him simply slipped right through his body and he was able to completely massacre every single mist ninja with the powers of Wood Release that awakened out of the side of his body that was reconstructed using White Zetsu cells. In reality, Obito’s body isn’t exactly intangible. He actually manages to transport parts of his body to the dimension of Kamui, and it all happens so fast that to the normal eye, it appears as if things can pass right through him.

Obito has such great control over this ability that hardly anyone in the world ofNarutocan land an attack on him. In fact, even though he fought countless battles, he only seriously got injured when he fought Konan and later on in the 4th Great Ninja War, when the secrets to his jutsu were exposed. Despite this only being half of his Mangekyo Sharingan powers, it was enough to make Obito overpowered enough to contend with most people in the Naruto world.
Obito’s Right Mangekyo Sharingan Ability
Obito’s left Mangekyo Sharingan belonged to Kakashiafter the events of the Kannabi Bridge. While Kakashi awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan at the same time as Obito, the abilities were only shown in the story much later. This was likely due to the trauma that Kakashi had endured. In fact, Kakashi most likely didn’t even know that he had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan. His clash with Itachi is what changed this and eventually forced him to utilize this power once again.
Kakashi’s version of Kamui is the long-ranged variant of this power. Just as Obito’s could cast Kamui on himself and transport parts of his body to a different dimension, Kakashi could use it on others at a long range. While Kakashi was severely lacking in precision and control of this ability at first, with time, it only grew exponentially. By the time of the 4th Great Ninja War, Kakashi could transport giant things to a different dimension within a matter of seconds, which just goes to show that his control improved drastically.
Furthermore, Kamui affected his chakra reserves terribly when he first started using this technique. However, by the time of the 4th Great Ninja War, his chakra reserves were actually quite stable while using this technique, signifying an improved mastery and increased chakra reserves.
Obito’s Double Mangekyo Sharingan Ability
While the individual abilities of each eye of Obito’s Mangekyo Sharingan were immense enough to make both Kakashi and Obito skilled fighters, they are only strongest when together. The true power of a Sharingan can only be brought forward when both eyes are used at the same time. This holds true for every user of the eye and Obito is no exception. Sadly, Obito barely got to use both his Mangekyo Sharingan at the same time and, shortly afterwards, he ended up dying at the hands of Kaguya. However, before he passed on, he gave Kakashi the remaining Six Paths chakra that he had, along with the power of the Mangekyo Sharingan, temporarily.
Kakashi was able to use both his eyes at the same time and it is needless to say that this ability made him incredibly overpowered. With this jutsu, Kakashi was able to essentially become invincible. He was able to contend with someone as strong as Kaguya Otsutsuki, which is nothing short of staggering. What’s more, the power of his Kamui increased drastically. His Kamui was strong enough to warp away Kaguya’s rabbit beast form and, what’s more, his Susanoo was equipped with weapons such as Kamui Shuriken that would warp away anything they sliced. In fact, his Susanoo was such that even Kaguya could not defeat it.
What’s even more dangerous is the fact that Kakashi could incorporate the power of Kamui into his other techniques, such as Kamui Raikiri. With this power, he sliced Kaguya’s shoulder and phased right through her, evading all counterattacks from her. Undoubtedly, Kakashi’s powers were on a different level when he wielded both Mangekyo Sharingan. It gave fans a glimpse into how powerful Obito would have been had he used both his eyes at the same time. This Mangekyo Sharingan is arguably the strongest seen in the entire series and deserves all the praise that it gets.
