The Wing Hero: Hawks is a fan-favorite in both the real world and theMy Hero Academiauniverse. Keigo Takami didn’t become the No. 2 Pro Hero for nothing! His incredible speed due to his amazing quirk lends him the ability to make quick work of petty villains.
At first glance, his quirk seems simple enough, but Fierce Wings is actually full of twists and turns. This complex quirk even became integral to the heroes’ success inMy Hero Academiaseason 5, “My Villain Academia,'' due to its hidden intel abilities. Fierce Wings is more than a simple pair of wings on Keigo Takami’s back.

Quirk Name: Fierce Wings
Hawks has a pair of vibrant red wings on his back that are used for more than just flying. At first glance they seem like ordinary wings, but Hawks has a few tricks up his very stylish jacket sleeves. Each feather can detach and be used in various ways through telekinesis. Keigo’s quirk is actually a combination of both his parent’s quirks. His mother had some form of a “third eye” type quirk and his fatherhad a feather based quirk. Combined, these made Keigo’s incredibly strong quirk: Fierce Wings. Due to the nature of Keigo’s quirk adding another appendage, Fierce Wings isclassified as a mutant type quirk.
The wings themselves give Hawks the ability to fly at incredible speeds as well. He’s shown keeping up with cars at 130 kilometers, about 80 miles, per hour. The fact that his feathers can be used as intel isn’t entirely public knowledge as Hawks chalks his No. 2 Pro Hero spot up to the fact that he’s incredibly fast. He’s so fast with his wings, in fact, that his sidekicks are only there to clean up the mess he makes after he takes care of villains. This annoys Class 1-A’s Fumikage Tokoyamito no end during his internship, but he grows close to Hawks over time anyway.

Knives and Knowledge
As mentioned previously, Hawks canuse his quirk for much more than flying. Much to the Pro Hero Safety Commission’s delight, Hawks can use his feathers to listen for intel. He does this by feeling the vibrations in the air around the feather and converting it into sounds that make sense. He can do this over somewhat long distances, as seen in the “My Villain Academia” Arc in which he leaves feathers around to pick up on conversations he isn’t allowed to listen to.
Among the many intel related feats, his feathers also make for some cool looking weapons. Keigo can vary how flexible or rigid his feathers are, thus he is able to turn some of them into blades. Sometimes he uses them as swords while others he throws them like daggers.

Alongside making good weapons, Keigo’s quirk is fantastic for safety and rescue missions. His feathers can be used to pick up medium weight objects such as rubble or people. This can be seen in various scenes where Hawks is saving people by picking them up with a single feather and pulling them out of the way of falling buildingseffectively preventing their demise.

Feathers Aren’t Fireproof
During the Paranormal Liberation War Arc, Tokoyami is seen talking to Hawks during his second internship about weaknesses. Keigo offhandedly mentions that he “supposes” fire is his greatest weakness because he doesn’t have much of a defense against it. Fire ends up being a catastrophic weakness of his in Season 6, Episode 18 when Dabi nearly burns Keigo’s wings into nothing. The only thing saving Keigo fromDabi’s vengeful rage due to Twice’s deathwas Tokoyami and Fat Gum.
Another weakness of Fierce Wings has to do with the feathers themselves rather than outside forces. The more feathers Hawks loses, the slower his flying capabilities are. If he loses too many feathers or they become destroyed, his wings are essentially useless for a few days while his feathers regrow. Typically Hawks’ wings will regrow in two days, but Hawks’ recent run-in with Dabi has Hawks’ wings healing at a seemingly slower rate. Due to this, he doesn’t have quite as many feathers which means he’s slower in the air.
The “Perfect” Quirk for Hero Society
When looking at it objectively, Hawks’ quirk is what some might consider “overpowered.” It can be used for intel on stealth missions, as weapons during battle, and even recovery during rescue missions. Some quirks are simple, yet strong such as Katsuki Bakugo’s Explosion. Other quirks, such as Fierce Wings are incredibly complex and take a lot of expertise to master. Takami Keigo was scouted by the Pro Hero Safety Commission as a childdue to the usefulness of his quirk, so it only makes sense that his training would lead to such great heights. On the other hand, even if Hawks’ quirk only granted him wings with super speed, he would likely find a way to the top ten heroes anyway. How could he not with his laid back attitude and likable face?
