However, as the updates began to slow, the player base dropped off as well, with player feedback focused on the lack of new content.
Even after closing its doors in June 2023, Player First Games confirmed thatMultiVersuswould be coming back sometime in 2024, though things remained up in the air for quite some time. However, thestudio began teasing a majorMultiVersusannouncement, with many fans speculating that this would be the big release reveal initially promised to arrive sometime this year. As it turns out, that’s exactly what took place, as MultiVersus game director Tony Huynh appeared in a new trailer to not only provide an actual launch date, but to reveal some of the biggest changes made to the game based on player feedback.

The latest developer update revealed what the team at Player First Games has been doing over the past few months since theopen beta forMultiVersuscame to a close. While sifting over feedback and data, the team has made numerous gameplay changes, including a major announcement that MultiVersus has switched to Unreal Engine 5 and has been rebuilt with all new netcode. Characters have been overhauled with new combat mechanics and attacks, and Huynh also confirmed new stages and additions to the roster as well. Finally, a new PvE game mode was teased, offering players new ways to play and rewards to earn.
When is MultiVersus Launching?
However, the biggest news for many in this latest trailer is thatMultiVersusnow has a hard launch date on May 28. Huynh promised more details to come in the following weeks, with many fans putting togetherMultiVersuscharacter wishlistsin the meantime. Considering Warner Bros has a massive stable of franchises and IPs to pick from, the launch roster could certainly see a variety of new additions to the existing group.
In fact, during the open beta period, there were plenty of rumors circulating around new characters that could be added. TheHarry Potterfranchise was constantly on top of most fan’s wishlists, though Cartoon Network’sSamurai Jackwas involved in plenty ofMultiVersusrumorsas well. While nothing official was ever confirmed, many fans continued to request the addition ofMortal Kombatcharacters like Scorpion or Sub-Zero.
